  1. GARBAGE BIN UNIT PORTFOLIO PRESENTSTION ROMELITO P. OCAT f. Bustamante National High school

  2. UNIT SUMMARY The students will learn the importance of math in our environment, specifically knowing ways on managing garbage disposal. To helped students come to this understanding they are grouped into 10 with 5 members in each group, and they will identify the characteristics, properties and volumes of a polyhedron in order for them to construct a garbage bin of any scales to be used as an aid in managing waste disposal.

  3. Curriculum-Framing Questions Essential Question * How math works in our community? Unit Question * What is the importance of polyhedron in our daily life? Content Questions • What is polyhedron? • What is the properties and characteristics of polyhedron?

  4. GARBAGE BIN PROJECT This project will help my students develop 21st century skills by: • Collaborating with peers. • Formulating formulas and strategies in constructing geometrical figures. • making decisions about their project

  5. Gauging Student Needs Assessment • Purpose of the Assessment * To gather information about students manipulative skills. • What I want to learn from my students? * I want to find out what they already know about polyhedron and how they value geometrical figures as a means of maintaining clean and green environment. • How I have tried to promote higher-order thinking? * I ask students how math works in our community. • How the assessment information helps me and my students plan for upcoming activities in the unit? *If students have difficulties on how to set up formulas, measuring and scaling, I can provide strategies and relationship that will lead them to come up with better ideas. • What feedback or additional ideas I’d like? *I would like to improved my assessment. I think I need to elicit more higher-order thinking, but I’m not sure how.

  6. My Goals for the Course • Find ways to get my students more interested in learning mathematics • Learn about different kinds of technology my students and I can use • Share ideas with other teachers

  7. Goals for My Students • To apply properties of polyhedron in constructing functional tool, in managing garbage disposal. • To become more independent learners by responding the needs of the school and the community in proper waste disposal.

  8. Request for Feedback • Places I could find a classroom in a different atmosphere for my students to work with • Strategies for monitoring student’s interest towards the learning process.
