Organizational History and Mission • Mission of the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation is to enhance the lives of burn survivors and promote burn prevention education. • At age 8, Alisa Ann Ruch was fatally injured in a backyard barbeque accident. Bravely using their tragedy as a catalyst for change, Alisa Ann’s parents partnered with Southern California firefighters to found the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation (AARBF), a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization, in 1971.
The Journey Home –AARBF’s Survivor Services • Returning to life after a serious burn injury is often the hardest part of a burn injury. • The support from family and friends is critical for a healthy emotional recovery. • The Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation provides programs and services to provide support to burn survivors.
SURVIVOR SERVICES MISSION To enhance the quality of life for burn survivors and their families through offering support services and crisis assistance.
CHAMP CAMP • Largest summer camp in the world for child burn survivors ages 5-16 • Provides a safe environment for kids to just have fun in a supportive environment
FAMILY CAMP • Weekend camping trip for adult burn survivors and their families.
YOUNG ADULT SUMMIT • Weekend retreat for burn survivors ages 16-20. • Place to make friends and build self-esteem. • Focusing on Education, Careers, and Life Management.
BRIDGE-TO-LIFE SCHOLARSHIPS • Program that provides support to burn survivor teens and young adults needing financial assistance to pursue higher education. • Recipients receive up to $2,000 in financial assistance towards educational expenses, such as books or registration. Awards are dispersed over 4 quarters/semesters
SURVIVOR SUPPORT PROGRAMS • Hospital Visits: to provide emotional support and resources to the burn survivor and their loved ones during and after their hospital stay. • Financial Support: includes bus cards, hotel accommodations, phone cards, and other items based on individual need. • Support Groups: A safe place for individuals affected directly or indirectly by a burn injury to discuss related issues.
BURN SURVIVOR EVENTS AARBF organizes and funds several special events throughout the year for burn survivors all over CA. • Ski Trips • Holiday Parties • Ride-a-Wave • Bowling Parties • Surfing Excursions • Many more… CENTRAL CALIFORNIA SKI TRIP

HOW CAN I HELP AARBF’S SURVIVOR SERVICES PROGRAMS? • Volunteer participate in a Survivor Services program by contacting your local regional office. • Donate funds or in-kind materials earmarked for a survivor services program. • Host a fundraiser to support the work of AARBF. • Refer a family member or friend who might need AARBF’s services or be interesting is supporting the mission.
