  2. Social Characteristics • Gender: SBNR have the second highest number of women (51%), after Religious and Spiritual • Age: SBNR have the fewest under 25 and the largest 45 to 65 years • Race: SBNR are 85% white • Education and Income: No clear differences in this regard

Religious Characteristics • SBNR tend to a high degree of spiritual experiences; for example many report strong feelings of awe and wonder • SBNR tend to have low involvement with religious institutions; for example very few are weekly worship attenders • SBNR show complex patterns on many religious beliefs and practices
