The motivation of SCORE • Current situation: • No formulated EU ICT research policy for the Western Balkan region for the period 2007-2013 • No defined common future ICT research priorities / policies within the region (driven by national level) • Why SCORE? • Need for well-defined future research priorities that • will enhance RTD co-operation in the area of Information & Communication Technologies (ICT) • between the WB region and the EU •  SCORE aims to contribute to theshaping of EU ICT research policyin the region, in a way that meets the: • interests and needs of regional ICT stakeholders and • priorities of the European Commission

Key results of SCORE • 4 country-specific ICT Strategic Research Agendas, defining futureICT research priorities in: • Albania, • Bosnia-Herzegovina, • Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, • Serbia • APolicy Paper withrecommendations for EU ICT research directions in the region • 1 thematic workshop (per country) for the transfer of know-how & best practices on ICT research priorities • Organization of an EU-Western Balkan Regional Conference, in order to consolidate the Strategic Research Agendas and Policy Paper.

  6. Methodology: Expert consultation phase (overview) • Experts provided feedback on a consultation document (incl. 12 questions) • Synthesis resulted in an initial list of ICT research priorities per country • At the consultation workshops, experts scored each priority based on feasibility & attractiveness criteria • The top 9 ICT research priorities were identified • In sub-groups experts identified research objectives and specific research areas per priority • Conclusion >> an initial version of the ICT Strategic Research Agenda, together with a number of challenges and respective recommendations on the future EU-WB research collaboration • Further feedback was added through an open consultation procedure.

  7. Scope of the today's ICT workshop • Transfer of EU technical know-how (e.g. through the presentation of successful FP6/FP7 projects) on two key ICT thematic areas reflecting the research priorities defined in the 1st phase • Further discussion on ICT research environment in Serbia
