  1. Get out novel and turn to chapter 11, p. 257

  2. Tableau • As a group, decide what you think the most important scene of chapters 11 and 12 is. • Then, create a TABLEAU to recreate the scene in still-life, statue form. • Write a short paragraph of a few sentences explaining what happened in the scene and why it is important.

  3. Can you find the figurative language in the song onething?

  4. Pages 266-268 • Lawrence Yep frequently used figurative language to help us experience the scenes. • Find the three similes on these pages and create Venn Diagrams to compare them

  5. Page 269 “I had found my mountain of gold, after all, and it had not been nuggets but people who had made it up: people like the Company and the Whitlaws. I had not realized until I had left it that I had been on the mountain of gold all the time. And somehow, being on our hillside, I felt above it all now—somehow freer and purer, working toward the fulfillment of Father’s dream. Somehow, all the worries and fears of the past seemed small and petty now.”

  6. Page 126 Reflection “You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.” These are lyrics from a song with which I think Moon Shadow would agree. In complete sentences, explain how this phrase connects to Moon Shadow’s experiences. Then, try to think about your own life. Has there been any time that you could describe in the same way?

  7. Pages 315-317 • Read Yep’s explanation of his purpose in writing Dragonwings. • What does he mean when he says, “I should also warn thoughtful readers Dragonwings is more of a historical fantasy than a fictional reconstruction.”? http://www.teachertube.com/viewVideo.php?video_id=258075

  8. Yep told Moon Shadow’s story, you tell… Complete the graphic organizer to finalize your thoughts based on interview and research about your immigrant’s life. Consider how you will tell his or her story in 1st POV and sequential order. Immigrant Narrative –rough draft is due Monday!!!!
