Study Skills Corner #2 Finding YOUR Style of Learning
What is a Learning Style? A learning style capitalizes on the way YOU learn best. It uses your predominant ‘intelligence(s)’ to more efficiently transfer learned information into memory. More efficient transfer = More efficient recall! All of us have preferred learning styles. Your assignment is twofold: - Find out your preferred learning style - Develop ideas that will capitalize on this learning style
Discovering Your Learning Style 1. Read pp. 53-55 in today’s handout (pages are not sequential). 2. Fill out the pie chart on page 57 of the handout to get an idea about your learning style 3. Go to: http://www.berghuis.co.nz/abiator/lsi/lsitest1.html and take the learning styles inventory. (This will serve as a ‘second opinion’ about your learning style.) 4. Read pp. 59-66 in today’s handout, even though all pages may not apply to you. THEN carefully re-read the pages that correspond to YOUR learning style 5. THINK about how you are going to USE and APPLY this information for your classes.
