How to Scrapbook with Kids Get crafty and creative with your kids! Scrapbooking is a perfect activity as little ones tend to be less cautious and more curious. If you’re already scrapbooking yourself, it should be easy to introduce it to the kids. If it’s the first time you’re doing it together, it shouldn’t be hard either.
Here are some tips to help you and your kids get started with scrapbooking
Take photos with your kids Don’t get too hung up on a theme for your scrapbook. If your kids are having a hard time thinking about a subject, ask them questions they’d love to answer. For example, you can recommend scrapbooking about their favorite toy, book, food, animal, or friend. Then, join them in taking pictures. You can also look into photos that you already have. You don’t have to use a digital camera. Smartphones should be enough.
Look for embellishments Keep it simple. You don’t have to take out your precious embellishments for your kids to use. When you get the chance to go out, pick up cheap decors they can use for their scrapbook. You can also check out art supplies you have and use them. You don’t need to spend a lot. Simple papers will even do as you customize a scrapbook for kids.
Prepare a craft area Set up a place where you and the kids can get working. Lay down a temporary cloth or cardboard as things are sure to get messy. Make all tools easily accessible, but put away sharp objects such as scissors. Tell them to let you know if they need to use cutting tools. As you proceed, let your little ones express themselves. Scrapbooks can serve as memory books where they're reminded of their favorite moments. But they can also go without a ‘concept’. Random, abstract designs are always welcome, and sometimes even a lot better!
Don’t pressure the little ones If kids don’t finish their work or change their mood before you can even start, that’s okay. Don’t force them if they don’t want to join, either. You can still continue scrapbooking if you’ve already set a workspace. Let your children stay beside you and do what they want to do. You can instead ask for their input as you work. Let them choose the paper or the decor, or perhaps, ask them what looks better. They can get involved without doing the actual work!
Did You Know that You Can Also Scrapbook With Kids Online? Scrapbooking can be done virtually too! Explore digital scrapbooking instead if you feel that your little ones will prefer it that way. Look out for free resources and guides online to get started. Forget perfection, never mind the mess, and just have fun scrapbooking together!
