  2. The Grassroots Women's International Academy (GWIA) is about increasing the power of community groups

  3. Spain Kenia Germany Nigeria Canada United States So far 11 GWIA’s were held

  4. Women are at the center of communities, they hold the wisdom of communities

  5. GWIA provides a structure for direct communication and exchange between different grassroots cultures

  6. The GWIA format includes opportunities for peer learning as well as for up scaling of grassroots practices

  7. GWIA is a format to ensure that the innovators of solutions from the ground, also be the ones articulating, naming, claiming and transferring their knowledge

  8. GWIA acts as an assessment- centre and clearing place for informal learning

  9. Learning in the context of exchanges is self guided and self controlled and does not follow a predefined outcome or agenda

  10. An important part of GWIA focuses on building partnerships with mainstream actors
