Mercosur – Facts and Figures • 4th largest economic world-wide bloc; • More than 200 million consumers; • Combined GDP of more than US$ 1 trillion; • Impressive process of modernisation and openness of national economies; • Convergence of liberal economic policies in the region; • The four countries’ (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay) intra-regional trade grew by 300% between 1990 and 1998, up to aproximately US$ 21 billion; • Brazilian and Argentine companies have each invested about 2 billion dollars in the establishment of some 400 joint ventures in the past five years.
