  1. Status of the CMS ECAL Endcaps • ECAL Plenary, 27 Feb 2007D Cockerill  VPTs Electronics andIntegration SC assembly Dee4 H4 and H2Planning Conclusions

  2. VPTs VPT contract completedETH-Z, RAL, Brunel, Bristol, IHEP, INR, PNPI, UVa, Split, RIE 16100 VPTs deliveredCMS Gold award to RIE yesterday 15616 tested at RAL at 1.8T1820 tested at Brunel at 4.0T~10700 VPTs now at CERN~5000 reception tested under HV

  3. EE Electronics Supercrystal to Motherboards  HT filter card mass production launched with Elfab in Dec 2006 120 cards received yesterday. 500 cards/m. 3120 cards by end Sep.  SC umbilical cable mass production launched at CERN last week (Cegelec)  24 prototype EE motherboards produced. 2 fully tested, rest being appraised  EE Motherboard mass production started at Ascom Internal SC mounting All umbilical, fibre optic and HT card supports either produced or nearing end of production All porte-ferrules for the laser fibres produced

  4. EE Electronics EE VFE cards to fibre optic readout VFE card production completed last year LVR cards completed and delivered  All VFE and LVR housings delivered to CERN Order placed for Gap Pad Start VFE card calibration in Lyon as soon as possible  All 800 EE FE cards produced and tested at LLR – being sent to 867  All GOH and ribbon fan-outs tested and ready at CERN EE TRLBs – final components need to be mounted

  5. HV card HV card test stands SC HV card testsBristol and ETH-Zurich 2 HV test standsAll cards to be tested with high voltage 21 cards at a timeMeasure anode, dynode leakage currents 2 LV test standsAll R and C components measuredC at a least 3 frequencies Test stands operated through Labview Students Yannick Riesen and Juerg Eugster (ETH-Z) with the HT card test stand

  6. John Hill (RAL) examining the first dry assembly test for Dee4 integration Mechatronics & Monitoring Mechatronics All EE cooling bars prepared. All local manifolds for the cooling blocks due in March 6 (of 10) cooling blocks ready for Dee4 Support plates delivered for Dee4 First dry assembly tests for Dee4 carried out Polyethylene moderator Moderator for all 4 Dees to be delivered in March Monitoring 3 level 1 fanouts prepared for Dee4Adapted to take VPT stability pulser fibresMounting on Dee4 possibly next week ‘Double MEM’ for Dee4 at H4?

  7. EE Mechanics OPAL frames and Dee rotation equipment SC have given permission for the use of all OPAL frames and lifting beams, after load tests https://edms.cern.ch/document/819480/1 Permission based on results from impressive FEA study carried out by Alexander Riabov (IHEP, Protvino) Rotation test and load tests on Dee1 OPAL frame in March Delivery of lifting device in March

  8. EE Mechanics Loading device for Environmental Screen Completed by New Ingenia SA Delivery to CERN this week Device attached to OPAL frame~1m stroke wrt backplate Allows screen to be safely loaded over the SCs for Dee horizontal or vertical

  9. SC assembly SC status Dee4425 EE crystals glued to VPTs17 SCs assembled out of 20 14 HV tested Dee130 EE crystals glued to VPTs3 partial (2x5) SCs assembled Crystals awaiting useDeliveries in Dec 2006/Jan 2007125 BTCP125 SIC

  10. Dee4 SC assembly Assembly progress at http://hepwww.rl.ac.uk/CMSecal/Dee-assembly-status.htm

  11. SC test stands SC tests and umbilical trigger mapping Have successfully run the UVa pulser system and ECAL DAQ with a preshower CREPE board Complete system controlled from a single PC Would like 1-2 further CREPE boards for additional test stands Crepe board Matt Ryan (Imperial) reading out a Supercrystal for Dee4 with the preshower CREPE board

  12.                 Dee4 SCs assembled for testbeam Each SC assembled with VPTs from within a specific yield range  SCs assembled for Dee4

  13. H4 and H2 • H4 • Dee4 to H4 in MayDetailed design of mount on H4 turntable nearly complete • 20 SCs = 500 crystals UVa offer for testbeam coordinator: Alexander Ledovskoy DAQ/DQM Matt Ryan, Alexander Ledovskoy, Yvgeni Vlassov  CCS code and control room monitoring need to cope with - EE trigger mapping into the motherboards - Readout 5 EE Trigger GOH/FE later in the year - Token ring layout specific to Dee4 • H2 permanent facility • 4 SCs in front of HE • Use old E0prime mechanics2 existing SCs at RAL and UVaAssemble 2 further SCsProject led by HCAL communityThey will design/make all infrastructure interfaces at H2

  14. Dee4 and E0prime planning All Dee4 and E0prime preparation in Crystal Palace

  15. Dee1 by Autumn 2007 Bldg 27 available for EE assembly Parallel work mandatory:SC loadingHV and LV cablingUmbilical trigger mappingCooling bar mountingVFE/LVR/TRLB mounting Changeover to EE crystal gluing in Bldg 27 Modify 40-50 multiboxes from EB type to EE type End of EB activities in 867Start of EE integration in 867

  16. EE - Conclusions ECAL Endcap mass production underwayGood progress on Dee4 Testbeam programme in 2007 will extend the calibration and detailed response studies on the CMS ECAL out to  = 2.5 Dee1 for CMS by Autumn 2007 – parallel activities essential
