What exactly is PIF? • Intense French speaking • Focus is on learning to communicate in French • It integrates information from other subject areas such as Social Studies, and Health • Grade 6 PIF with 60 minutes of French per day on average up to grade 10 with possible Advanced Placement courses

  4. Frequently asked questions • As parents do we need to know French? No… • Will the teacher speak French all of the time? Yes… • How is it different from Immersion? All subjects in French vs focus on French communication • “Research shows that students in Intensive French develop spontaneous oral communication skills equivalent to that of grade 11 Core French students”

  5. Frequently asked questions cont. • What should they be able to do in French by end of grade 6? General conversation, write a letter in French, ask simple questions, read a short French novel • Are there exams or test? Yes and no…

Why Learn Another Language? • Improves cognitive and literacy skills • Enhances self self-esteem by taking risks and overcoming feelings of insecurity when faced with the unknown • Connects you with the world, in particular rest of Canada • Improves employment options…all federal government jobs require bilingualism • Makes you more marketable • Helps overall development • Makes it easier to learn another language
