What is Forced Migration ? • According to William Peterson, • Migrationoccurring without people’s will and resulting from the problems experienced in a region or from the environmental conditions making it hard to live in a region • Accordingtomodified UN definitionof IDPs, • “the internally displaced are the persons or groups of persons who have been forced or obliged to flee or to leave their homes or places of habitual residence, in particular, as a result of, or in order to avoid the effects of, armed conflict, situations of generalized violence, violations of human rights or natural or human-made disasters, and who have not crossed an internationally recognized state border”

Immigrants’ AssociationforSocialCooperationandCulture (GOC-DER) • Founded in April 27th, 1997 after a period of intensifiedpractices of mass-displacements • A member of Migration Platform which is composed of AmedGoc-Der, Van Goc-Der, Akdeniz Goc-Der since 2008 andthisyear Göç-Der Cizre has beenestablishedandnowadayswearetryingtohaveGoc-der in İzmir onemore. • Objectives : • toprovidecooperationamongmigrantsandvoiceouttheirdemandsfor a morehumanelife • - operating as a socialnetwork enablingmigrantstocometogetherandorganizingpublic network in ordertopublicisethetragedyexperiencedbymillions of peopleunknowntothepublic

  14. Since 1998 eachyeartheassociationhas arrangedtheactivities of Migration Week in orderto put thetragedy of mass-displacement on agendaandmakethemigrationquestion be debated in search of findingsolutions.

  17. «PlayroomForChildren» In Ayazma, a playroomwasestablishedforforcedmigrantchildren, in whichchildrenlearn how tosharethecommonspaceand time Thechildrensharedsimilarproblemstrytocombatwiththeirtraumatichistory

  18. «Ayazma Health Project» Twophysicalterapistsand a nurseprovidedhealthchecktotheIDPswithouthealthinsurance in Ayazma, Istanbulfor 4 yearstwice a week. Freemedicineandcheckupwasprovidedthroughthisproject.

SeveralReports on theSocial, Economic, andCulturalConditions of ForcedMigrants in Turkey • Some of them: • A report on forcedmass-displacementcoveringDiyarbakır,Van Batman, Istanbul,IzmirandMersin between 1999-2001 has beenprepared. Basinguponinterviewswith 2139 families, thereportincludesthecausesandimpacts of massdisplacement on thepeople. Thesample is composed of 17.845 people. • A report on economic, socialandculturalrights of Kurdishforcedmigrants has beenpublished in 2011, whichincludesinterviews with 1541 people in 9 provinces

  20. To cover problems experiinced by the victims of mass-dislplacement and bring those problems to the attention of related authorities intellectuals and other migration victims a periodical named “Göç-Der Haber Bülteni” has started its publishing life in June 1998 and left behind its 22nd issue • Although it was sued many times during its publishing life it was acquitted of them Monthlybulletins on theprocess of internaldisplacementandthesituation of theforcedmigrantswerepublishedduringtheintenseperiod of migration.
