Family Educational Rights and Privacy ActFERPA What is FERPA? The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal privacy law that gives parents certain protections with regard to their children's education records, such as report cards, transcripts, disciplinary records, contact and family information, and class schedules. Parents have the right to review their child's education records and to request changes under limited circumstances. Does FERPA give me a right to see the education records of my son or daughter who is in college? When a student turns 18 years old or enters a postsecondary institution at any age, all rights afforded to the parent under FERPA transfer to the student.
FERPA (continued) Your FERPA relationship with your students/parents does not change. Students may waive their FERPA rights. Our ability to disclose records with a FERPA waiver is dependent on what the student indicates on the waiver form. Do not disclose information on any NON-CWU student to us.
State FundingOSPI Form Package 732 – Due 7/1/19 @ 5pm These subsidies pay the college’s course fee for specific 11th and 12th grade students enrolled in eligible CHS classes. The CHS subsidies are awarded to districts, charter schools, and tribal compact schools based on the high school’s qualifying “tier” and their Free and Reduced Price Lunch (FRPL) percentage. Allocation of the CHS subsidies will be prioritized based on the following three tiers, in the order presented: • High schools located and students who live twenty miles or more, as measured by the most direct route from a college that offers Running Start. • High schools that receive small high school funding. • For remaining high schools, students who are eligible for FRPL. High schools will be ranked within these tiers based on their poverty percentage. This percentage will be determined using the October 1, 2018, 9th–12th grade FRPL data reported to CEDARS as of March 31, 2019. The CHS subsidies will be awarded to schools with the highest poverty percentages first. Student Credit Maximums For Tiers 1 and 2, any 11th or 12th grader enrolled in an eligible CHS class will qualify for up to 10 college credits of subsidies per school year. For Tier 3, 11th or 12th grade students that qualify for FRPL will be eligible for up to 5 college credits of subsidies per school year. 5 – 1 Verbiage WAC 392-725-200 Prior Confirmation of high school credit. As a condition to an eligible student's enrollment in college courses, The eligibility of the college in the high school courses which the student intends to take for the award of high school credit and the amount of such credit shall first be established, as follows: (1) The district, charter school, or tribal compact school shall establish on a course by course basis the amount of high school required or elective credit, or combination thereof, that shall be awarded for each college in the high school course successfully completed. Successful course completion by the student based upon the con-version rate set forth in WAC 180-51-050 and RCW 28A.230.090(6) which states: "At the college or university level, five quarter or three semester hours equals one high school credit." This conversion rate holds true for all college in the high school classes regardless of whether or not the student elects to earn the available college cred-it.

Testing The following test scores are accepted If you are using CWU Testing Services – you don’t need to supply copies of score reports. We can pull scores up to 364 days after the test is taken.

Running Start On Campus (Online) • Students in your schools can participate in Running Start online through CWU • Some schools have approached us for this option when students have run out of options at the high school • Works best for taking electivesrather than requirements • Students must meet the admission requirements for RS • Students can usually take one 5 credit course through RS and still be fully enrolled at the high school • We can come out to your high school to meet with your counselors and give a presentation to students and parents
