F3, B3, FIP and BIP primers anneal on the target in the showed positions (A) and by the peculiar amplification and displacement mechanism they are responsible for the formation of the “dumb-bell” starting structure, from which the whole reaction starts in an exponential-like fashion. Additional loop primers (LF and LB) allow an increase in the amplification rates by annealing on single strand regions of the loops in the dumb-bell structure (B). Concatamers made by repetitions of the initial module are produced (together with other structures) during the reaction
