What do we do with the students who master the pre-test? • Each student starts a portfolio. a. Copy of pre-test b. Collection of artifacts from extensions c. Share with parents 2. They meet with you1 timea week, 45 min – 1 hr. to get exposure to something different. a. Check – in time to introduce/evaluate an activity b. Students are made aware of what’s expected • The teacher gives them time to work on extension activities. a. Not teacher-directed b. Instead of doing something else

Evaluation“THE IMPORTANT THING IS TO UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU’RE DOING, RATHER THAN GET THE RIGHT ANSWER.” • DAP Tool – Developing and Processing Tool • Used to evaluate enrichment or higher level work. Allows students to go for a “4”. • Encourages students to take risks as learners and to understand what it means to “go above and beyond”. • Allows students to self-reflect so the teacher can then reflect on instruction and the process of the learning.
Student Reflection 1. Students will reflect on the CONTENT that they learned. “You could have presented the ancient multiplication method differently by showing us how to do one of them so we have an idea of how we should figure out the other 2 methods.” 2. Students will reflect on the PROCESS of completing the activities and the value of the experience. “I learned that the ancient Egyptians had a multiplication method too. I learned that 2’s are not bad when you do work that is challenging. I liked trying to figure out the ancient method. I disliked how hard the ancient method was.” 3. Students will reflect on the AMOUNT OF TIME GIVENby the teacher to complete the activities. “I thought that the time that we had in class was fair, because she said that some bell ringers we didn’t have to do, and she said, “Do math enrichment if you want to.”
