  2. Radio Awards • The Washington State High School Radio Conference and Awards are held yearly with the five Washington high school radio programs. This year we will be taking the radio students to Peninsula High School for the day conference and awards. At the conference students have the opportunity to listen to various speakers from the broadcasting industry, have a lunch, and then receive awards based on their submissions to the conference. • In preparation for the Awards, we will follow the schedule below for the next six weeks. Note*** Voice tracking is still due each week on your assigned days.

What’s Due? • What’s Due? • By April 2 you need to have completed the following: • Intro students • 3 x 60 Second News Updates • 1 x Team Newscast (Max 5 Minutes) • 1 x News Feature (Max 3 Minutes) • 1 x PSA (max 1 minute) • 1 x Underwriting Announcement (max 1 minute) • 5 x Radio Imaging Pieces • 1 x Best Jock Talk (Air Check) (max 2 minute) • 1 x 30-60 Second Radio Station Promotion • Advance Students • All of the above • Any sports Play-By-Play • Any Sports Production There is only one opportunity for a grade on each of these items. I highly recommend not waiting until the end to do all these. Use your class time wisely and get feedback from Hilen early, not the day there due.

  4. Turning in Files • All submissions must be • In .mp3 file format • Put in the correct folder on the server • Use the exact naming rule: • FirstnameLastname –“Category Name” Submission # • Note the Spaces not the lines • Complete the Category Submission/Grading Sheet and turn it in to basket. • Print off Website • Follow the instructions on this sheet to save

  5. Advance Students • Your Jobs and Duties Points starts today. • Work on Radio Submissions when you don’t have anything on the Jobs List • Check this list daily on Website and posted on my window. • Recommend Being in classroom for lesson days

  6. Internal Webpage • Has the on-air schedule • This indicates when you are on the air. • Has Talk Points and Liners • Will have information about KMIH • https://sites.google.com/site/kmihfm/home

Voice Tracks • Make sure you complete you Voice Track each week • Everyone should now be Back Selling and Front Selling Songs • “Your just head music from…” • “Artist and Name right there on Hot Jamz Radio… • “Right Now its….On Hot Jamz Radio” • “Here’s…. On Hot Jamz Radio” • “Next is…..” • Use Liners and Talk Point Page • Turn in Yellow Sheet to Turn in Box in Radio Station. This is how you get your weekly grade.

  8. Hot Jamz News Updates • News Updates informs the listener in less then 60 seconds. • News Updates are brief summaries that that still answers: • Who • What • Where • When • Why • How • Depending on the depth of the stories, 3-5 stories in a hit.

How • Read the news using Digital Sources • Local News Channels Web sites • King, Komo, KIRO, Seattle Times, New Tribune, MI Reporter • Local News Papers Sites • Other Local or National News sites • AP News • Don’t Use • Gossip Sites • Your option or what you think • Relinking Sites • MI Patch – Verify Source

  10. Keep In Mind • Story Date • Location of the story • Authenticity of the story • Who is listening to our station? • For the Ear • If you read it out loud does it sound like your telling us what happened or reading to us what happened.
