Here’s How a Batching Plant Works Batching plants are a common sight in manufacturing areas. A batching plant is a well-equipped machinery facility that combines raw materials effectively in producing concrete material. With the fast urbanization of rural areas, batching plants have become a necessity. The construction industry is one of the biggest sectors that uses concrete for building purposes. Although we would’ve seen a batching plant, the inner workings are usually very technical for us to understand. We’ve broken down the process of manufacturing concrete using batching plants. Basically, there are two types of concrete batching plants. ● Dry mix concrete plant ● Wet mix concrete plant In the dry mix concrete plant, dry raw materials such as sand, aggregates are mixed together by weight and then transferred to a transit mixer. In the transit mixer, water is further added to the raw materials and the mixing of concrete begins. Whereas, in the wet mix concrete plant, the raw materials are individually weighed and then added
to a mixing unit. The mixing unit combines the raw materials together and pumps it into another dispensing unit. Since the mixing of elements is centralized, the wet mixer is widely preferred for its accuracy and quality of the end-product. The stationary batching plant is usually chosen by large-scale producers, who tend to the demands of the manufacturing industry. The large-scale batching plant encompasses the following elements. ● Aggregate Feeding In this unit, the aggregates and sand materials are fed into the unit. The feeder has individual bins, where the raw materials are deposited meticulously. ● Powder Feeding The powder feeding unit is one of the important units because the end-product created here is used as a binding agent. Powder elements such as fly ash, cement, and additives are added. ● Water Water is the main ingredient in processing concrete. The right amount of water is added in this unit, which combined with the cement creates a quality end-product. ● Storage & Conveyance Prior to the addition and mixing of elements, the individual raw materials are stored in a secure compartment. The raw
materials will be transported using a conveyor belt to the weighing machine. ● Control System Every batching plant contains a centralized control system, where the process is managed and monitored efficiently by experts. Every concrete batching plant is maintained by the plant managers, who manage the production of concrete. Every process in the production of concrete is carried out within a specified time frame to ensure that the end-product is of top quality.
