Background: He arrived in the NY Harbor in 1903 with his family in the steerage section of a boat, which was the cheapest way they could arrive. The came to the US for freedom. They settled into an italian ghetto in Los Angeles, CA. His father, Salvadore picked fruit for a living. Their religion was Roman Catholic.
Career:He sold newspapers for 10 years after school, until he graduated.He worked his way through California Institute of Technology with various jobs.He had 12 cents to his name when he answered a newspaper ad by an actor who wanted someone to direct his poetry.His first film was “Fultah Fisher’s Boarding House” by Rudyard Kipling

Marriage and Family First Wife: Actress Helen Howell (1923-1927) Second Wife: Lu Capra (1932-1984) He had 4 children (1 daughter and 3 sons. 1 son died when he was an infant). Frank Capra, III, his grandson is a director in Hollywood and was also an assistant director in “The American President”.
Work History:He went to work for CBC, which later became Columbia Pictures.He worked for Harry Landgon, a famous comedian directing silent films.He was fired by Mr. Landgon then returned to Columbia Pictures.
