College Mission “The Adult College aims to provide lifelong learning opportunities for the community of Barking and Dagenham, to enable the development of knowledge, skills, judgement and creativity throughout adult life.” p.2
The College’s 6 Venues • Fanshawe Crescent • Barking Learning Centre • Marks Gate Community Centre • Sydney Russell Children’s Centre • Sue Bramley Centre • Abbey Children’s Centre. (several schools used for Family Learning)
Mobile Phones Unless you have an emergency, please switch off mobile phones while you are in the classroom or Learning Resource Centre. If you wish to record information or take pictures in your class you must get permission from your tutor.
Fire Safety Make sure you know the easiest way out of your classroom. See the map on the classroom wall that shows fire exits. In the event of the fire alarm sounding Please follow staff directions immediately
Smoking Smoking is NOT allowed anywhere on college sites. If you would like support in giving up smoking please see Student Services. p.14

V.L.E. • Our virtual learning environment is called Moodle and can be found at www.adultcollegemoodle.lbbd.gov.uk • It will include learning resources, reference documents, assessments, surveys and much more and is as easy to use as the internet. • Your tutor will issue you with your password and username. p.7
Key Policies The College has many policies, but the key ones include: • Health & Safety • Safeguarding • Behaviour • Equalities and Diversity • Disability Equality. All policies are available from reception, the LRC, or from Moodle p.10
Health and Safety Your health, safety and welfare are important to the College. If you have any concerns or worries and would like to talk, speak to your tutor or Student Services. You will receive appropriate training related to your course and must conform to H&S procedures explained to you. p.13
Safeguarding The Adult College has a responsibility to safeguard the health, safety and welfare of all learners. If for any reason you or another learner feel unsafe, threatened or under pressure to do something that makes you uncomfortable, speak to Student Services. The College may need to talk to other agencies about your disclosure. p.13
Equalities and Diversity The College welcomes everyone onto its courses and will help everyone achieve their potential and encourage all Learners to embrace diversity. The College does not tolerate discrimination. p.10
Disability Equality The College has a Disability Equality Statement to ensure that we meet the needs of all disabled people. If you have any questions, comments or support needs please contact Student Services. p.10

Financial Support • The Learner Support Fund can help with: • Course books for loan • Materials for your course • Crèche fees Educational Maintenance Allowance and Adult Learners Grants can help you with your learning. Please ask Student Services for information. p.12
Services All students are encouraged to use the facilities, which at Fanshawe Crescent includes the café, the Learning Resource Centre and the crèche. At the Barking Learning Centre there is also café and library. p.12
