  1. The Evolution of Science By: Nicole & Francesca 4B

  2. Scientific Revolution: Isaac Newton • Born in Woolsthrope, England on December 25, 1642 • Grew up in Grantham, England • English physicist, astronomer, philosopher, theologist, alchemist and mathematician • Enrolled at the King's School in Grantham, where he was introduced chemistry • Attended Trinity College & Cambridge University • Changed the principles of both chemistry and math • Translates the bible into Hebrew * http://dsc.discovery.com/tv-shows/other-shows/videos/assignment-discovery-shorts-isaac-newton-invents-calculus.htm *

  3. The Discoveries of… Isaac Newton • With discoveries in optics, motion, and mathematics he developed the principles of modern physics. He was the original discoverer of the infinitesimal calculus. • Discovered the laws of gravity; “Isaac Newton made a discovery, when he saw an apple fall from a tree. So he told the world of the force we can’t see, And we call it gravity” * http://www.history.com/videos/isaac-newton-and-a-scientific-revolution#isaac-newton-and-a-scientific-revolution *

  4. Modern Science: Albert Einstein • Born in Württemberg, Germany in March 14, 1879 • Forced to move to Milan, Italy • German-born theoretical physicist who developed the general theory of relativity • Attended the University of Zurich, Charles University in Prague and the University of Leiden • Was a professor at Princeton University • Winner of the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics

  5. Why is…. Albert Einstein so well known? • Most well known for this simple math equation; e=mc^2 or mass times the speed of light (c) squared. (This equation led to the atomic bomb and nuclear power) • Famous quotes… EX: “Things should be made as simple as possible, but not any simpler.” • The two theories of relativity • Nobel Prize winner General theory of relativity: “All motion must be defined relative to a frame of reference and that space and time are relative, rather than absolute concepts.”

  6. The ManhattanProject … • Manhattan Project started on September 17, 1942 • Began because of World War II • Scientists were debating whether or not to drop an atomic bomb in Japan to end the war • Albert Einstein disagreed with using the bomb, thinking that it was be disastrous • The Manhattan Project was carried out in complete secrecy • Despite Albert Einstein's decision, the government decided to drop the bomb which effected two cities: Hiroshima and Nagasaki

  7. Isaac Newton Albert Einstein Both Born in Germany Born in England Attended Zurich University, Charles University in Prague,& Leiden University Attended Trinity University& Cambridge University Intelligent Well-known Respected Professor in Princeton University for Physics Astronomer, Theologist,Philosopher & Alchemist Inventors Physicists Educated Won a Nobel Prize in 1921 Moved to London in 1969 Great Mathematicians Died on April 18, 1955 Died on March 20, 1727 Changed the World

  8. Different Views on… Gravity Isaac Newton Albert Einstein

  9. Reactions to… Newton & Einstein’s work ISAAC NEWTON ALBERT EINSTEIN The Church disagreed with Newton’s scientific works due to Newton’s religious beliefs. The Church disagreed with Einstein's works because of his religion. Newton wanted to become King of England therefore, King James II and Newton were at a disagreement. The German government disagreed with Einstein because of his theory of relativity.
