Settled by more than a meter after first filling. • Very wide longitudinal cracks (about half kilometer long) appeared at the dam crest during construction stage in early 1965 when dam was partially built to El 103 m. • Sherard and other dam experts reviewed the problem and recommended raising of the dam upto its design crest level of 114.5m • Development of cracks was a recurring problem till ACE carried out remedial works • ACE observed that the upstream slope of the dam, specially in the central highest reach experiences rapid movement on occasions when the reservoir level goes down below El. 90 m. s
