The Project Goethe-Institut für Thema • BACKGROUND • perceived lack of authentic language materials for young learners • AimS • To provide resources appropriate to the target age-group • To motivate younger learners to engage with the material • To create a stimulating experience without usual limitations of preparing for an exam

  4. HOMEPage LAYOUT Goethe-Institut für Thema • TOPICS • 7 main topics • each topic has its own colour code

  5. HOMEPage LAYOUT Goethe-Institut für Thema • Featured Articles • can be found in right-hand column on the homepage • each article shows topic‘s colour code (e.g. blue for Reisen)

  7. HOMEPage LAYOUT Goethe-Institut für Thema • Search function • accessible from every area of website (home / topic /article) • search for keywords in the articles (e.g. Ziege) 

  8. ARticles Goethe-Institut für Thema • accompanied by at least one picture and a quote • for every text there are two versions available: STANDARD and DIFFERENTIATED

  9. ARticles Goethe-Institut für Thema • Text difficulty LEVEL • you can switch between the two versions by clicking on the STANDARD or DIFFERENTIATED buttons

  10. ARticles Goethe-Institut für Thema • Text difficulty LEVEL • the differentiated version uses easier vocabulary, simpler grammar and shorter sentences

  11. ARticles Goethe-Institut für Thema • Descriptions • a description is available for the underlined words in each article • when hovering over the underlined word with your mouse, the description appears in the left-hand column

  14. Video Content Goethe-Institut für Thema • videos with content of interest to young learners are available in German with English subtitles • a second version without subtitles is also available  

  15. Video Content Goethe-Institut für Thema • Transcript • by clicking on the Transcript button the video transcript appears in a separate window • 

Video Content Goethe-Institut für Thema • Transcript • text is highlighted in bold to correspond with the words as they are spoken in the film • to listen to a sentence again, just click on that section of the transcript and the video will jump back to the same section of the film so that you can listen to it again  

Video Content Goethe-Institut für Thema • Transcript • transcript has own search function • type in word you want to search for (e.g. Freiheit) in top left corner and press Enter • transcript and video will jump to the sentence in which the word appears • press Enter again and it will jump to next passage with the word you are searching for (you can also use the arrows to jump between passages) 

  18. Audio Content Goethe-Institut für Thema • mix of speech and music • audio files transcript available with same functions as video transcripts (such as search, auto scroll, repeat function) 
