  1. prof. dr hab. inż.Wojciech Dąbrowski Cracow University of Technology Innovative storm water management practice including storage and monitoring

  2. Actual situation • Comperatively low precipitation. • Only 30% to 40% of the urban • area served by combined sewerage • systems. • In spite of this relatively poor • surface waters bacteriology. • 4.Luck of storage tanks may be one • of main reasons. • 5. Expensive access to metheorological data.

  3. Average annual precipitation in mm/year during the period 1971-2000. source : IMiGW

  4. National research program is focused on stormwater quality, separate versus combined systems environmental impact, investments in revitalisation planning, real time modelling, sediment transportation, overflows impact and novative constructions, new materials etc. • Only two topics have been chosen: • storage tanks to relieve overcharged storm water sewers, because of some achievements, • Improvements in calculations of flow rate from flume measurements, because of a potential for cooperation.

  8. Conclusion Significant saving of storm water storage tanks volume is possible.

  9. In the standard ISO 4359 (rectangular, • Palmer Bowlus, U- flumes) the following • mistakes have been made : • archaic concept of a boundary layer, • corrections of stream diameter calculated • for the end of the throat instead of for • the critical depth, • the same correcions calculated for the • mass and the energy balance equations.

  10. Different modifications are required for the Fluid stream dimensions for energy and for Mass balances.

  11. Conclusion An accuracy of flow rate computations from flume measurements can be significantly improved.
