Just a few stats • The latest Health Survey for England data shows that in England in 2010 • 62.8% of adults (aged 16 or over) were overweight or obese • 26.1% of all adults were obese • In Kirklees 18% of all adults are obese and 36% are overweight (Kirklees Joint Strategic Needs Assessment , 2009) • If current trends continue then by 2050 60% of males and 50% of females could be obese.

Impact of obesity • Compared with a healthy weight man, an obese man is: • five times more likely to develop type 2 diabetes • three times more likely to develop cancer of the colon • more than two and a half times more likely to develop high blood pressure • An obese woman, compared with a healthy weight woman is: • almost 13 times more likely to develop type 2 diabetes • more than four times more likely to develop high blood pressure • more than three times more likely to have a heart attack
