  2. What are the Extended Subject Area Assessments (XSAA)? • Extended Reading • Extended Writing • Extended Mathematics • Extended Science

  3. Who is Assessed with XSAA? • Students with IEPs identified by team members as unable to take the General Assessment even with accommodations • Students with IEPs who will be assessed via alternate achievement standards

  4. What is new this year? • Different (Separate) grade level assessments • Grade 3 - 5 assessment with decision points for skill level • Grade 6 - 8 assessment with decision points for skill level

  6. What is the difference? • Qualified Assessor • Qualified Trainer

  7. A Qualified Assessor: • Administersassessment in a standardized manner, • Scores student responses fairly and reliably, • Delivers scores to the online data collection system • Reviewsthe individual student report • Interpretsresults for student, family, and educational team

A Qualified Trainer: • Administers assessment in a standardized manner, • Scores student responses fairly and reliably, • Delivers scores to the online data collection system • Reviews the individual student report • Interprets results for student, family, and educational team • Local “point” person • Provides training and coaching for assessors and trainers • Supports both extended assessment formats • Awards “assessor” certificates

  10. Before awarding a certificate to your protégé…

  11. Your protégé should: • Complete the exercises on the training website AND • Take qualifying exercises and quizzes Already qualified assessors should review website for new tasks and refresh annually

  12. Following Website Training • Have protégé administer assessment(s) to a student • Provide materials (or show where to get them) • Answer questions, offer support

  13. Review results and provide feedback • One-on-one or in a small group • Discuss scoring questions and go over corrections • Have protégé fix errors and produce an accurate score

Training New Assessors: What QAs do to Become QTs • Provide training to a new assessor---use training website • Have new assessor administer practice assessments to a student • Review administration and scoring with new assessor (marking correct scoring in green highlighter and errors in pink highlighter) • Send in results to PSU or to the UO

Materials to ship: • ID: Your identifying information (name, address, phone, email, etc.) • CERTIFICATE: Copy of your assessor certificate • PROTEGE’S MATERIALS: Copy of your protégé’s scoring protocols with your feedback and comments • Use training website and 2004 materials posted on website • Keep a copy of the materials you ship • Send an email notifying contact person (PSU or UO) that you are sending your materials

  16. What if I don’t have an Assessor Certificate to send? If you don’t have an Assessor Certificate you may substitute a completed practice assessment you administered to a student
