  2. What is an association? An association is like a big club: • We have members • We have meetings • We have officers • We have dues • We have parties!

  3. Why are associations formed? Sometimes associations are formed to solve a problem. Sometimes associations are formed to spread a message.

  4. Why are associations formed? …and sometimes associations are formed to just have fun! Sometimes associations are formed to help others…

  5. Why are associations formed? One person can do some things…

  6. Why are associations formed? Two people can do a little bit more…

  7. Why are associations formed? But a whole lot of people can do a whole lot of stuff!

  8. Who joins associations and why? Girls join the Girl Scouts of America to learn about the world, make friends, and develop skills to enhance their lives. People join the United States Tennis Association to meet other tennis players, form teams, and teach other people about tennis.

  9. Who joins associations and why? People at work join professional associations to learn, teach, advocate, and promote what they do for a living.

  10. What does an association do? • Provide and explain information • Keep people in touch

  11. What does an association do? • Represent members in government • Teach people new things

  12. What kind of people work for associations? Writers, graphic designers, computer programmers, accountants, planners, lobbyists and more.
