Dating In the Colonial Times • During the Colonial times, America broke their ties with England, causing a need for more laborers to build the new towns. • People then pressured their sons and daughters to get married young, in order to be independent from their parents and to have children to fill the demands for jobs.

  3. Dating in The 1800’s • Dating soon evolved in the 1830's. Men and women no longer depended on each other for economic support, as much as they depended on each other for the gender roles they played in the family. • The traditions of dating then advanced further in the 1880's, when men and women were separated in school and work more, causing the idea of chaperoning by parents.

  4. Differences In Dating Over Time • Over the years, the sole purpose of dating has changed from the need for marriage and more children to the more physical aspects of love. • Most teens do not need chaperones anymore to go out on a date, and their dates usually do not lead directly to marriage.

  5. What NOT to do! • Don’t forget your dates! That’s a big turn down. She will feel unappreciated if you forget about a date. • Don’t use corny jokes, they get awkward. Try to keep the conversation flowing. A corny joke might stop the flow! • Don’t use uncomfortable compliments. There is a difference between starker and an admirer. • Don’t be a pervert. – Self explanatory !

  6. Corny Pick Up Lines • Do you believe in love at first sight, or should I walk by again? • Are you a parking ticket? 'cause you got fine-fine-fine written all over ya. • Baby, you must be a broom, cause you just swept me off my feet. • Girl, you must be tired 'cause you've been running through my mind all day!

Steps And Gestures To Impress • Be yourself- Girls hate when guys pretend to be someone that they are not. • Introduce yourself- A good first impression can be key to a good relationship. • Be nice to her friends. Friends are a very important part of a teenage girls life. Also, if you go so far as to meet her parents, you DEFINITELY want to make a good impression with them!

  8. Steps and Gestures… Continued • Dress Nicely, have a fashion sense. Make sure your clothes are clean and matching. Even with that fashion sense, make sure she is still the beauty, not you. • Start an inside joke with her! She will feel included and become closer to you. It also gives you an easy-to-come-up-with conversation starter. Try not to kill the joke though. • Treat her with respect. Respect shows women that you are interested in more than just their looks.
