  2. Poetry Prompt Day 1 • Write 4 stanzas about a monumental moment in your life. It must be original, avoid clichés, and each stanza needs 3-4 lines.

  3. Poetry Prompt Day 2 • Write a six stanza poem about childhood. Each stanza must contain 3-4 lines, and there must be a repeated theme or motif throughout the entire poem.

  4. My Papa’s Waltz The whiskey on your breath    Could make a small boy dizzy;    But I hung on like death:    Such waltzing was not easy. We romped until the pans    Slid from the kitchen shelf;    My mother’s countenance    Could not unfrown itself. The hand that held my wrist    Was battered on one knuckle;    At every step you missed My right ear scraped a buckle. You beat time on my head    With a palm caked hard by dirt,    Then waltzed me off to bed    Still clinging to your shirt.

  7. Poetry Prompt Day 4 • Choose ONE of the following prompts: • 1) Write a poem about one or all of the four seasons. (Some ideas for brainstorming: What does the season look, feel, smell like? What memories do you associate with that season?). • 2) Write a poem using three of the following words: expensive, lampshade, bruise, convincing. • 3)Write a poem that is dark, moody, or foreboding.

Poetry Prompt day 5 • Choose ONE of the following prompts: • 1)Write a poem about yourself in which nothing is true. • 2)Write a poem in which you create a metaphor for your life (your life is like a garden, painting, cruise ship, layered cake etc.) • 3)Write a poem focusing on yourself as an individual.

  9. Poetry Prompt Day 6 • Choose one of the poems you previously started and add to it, revise, and perfect this poem. Rewrite the full, new poem on your Day 6 piece of paper.
