3-4 PHILOSOPHY • Unique Scheme – can cause offensive confusion • Find and Recruit Less Defensive Linemen • Ability to put best players on the field (LB’s) • Multiple/Disguise – slant to/ stem to/ movements to different fronts • Nose guard increases pressure on center • O-Line must face a D-Line that will 2-gap, shade,slant, or run games • Creates pass rush mismatches (olb’s on backs,guards,tackles) • Offense has to account for 7 potential immediate rushers (five of them on the L.O.S.) • Zone Pressure Package easier because LB’s can replace pass zones rather than defensive linemen • System- Can change the scheme and players are not phased by it • Balanced – Can “mirror” offensive formations
