JYK Homestay 2008. 1 st Day : Scavenger Hunt. We asked questions to people in downtown Monterey. We got a map of the city. We walked to and from campus. We had lunch. We talked with our host families. Otter Group Marie’s Class. We Learned New Words.

1st Day : Scavenger Hunt • We asked questions to people in downtown Monterey. • We got a map of the city. • We walked to and from campus. • We had lunch. • We talked with our host families.
We Learned New Words Marvelous=wonderful; really great (ex: It is marvelous of him to volunteer his time.)
Day 2 • We learned about pollution. • We sang “Top of the World.” • We painted the storm drains. • We picked up garbage on the beach.

Day 3: • We practiced our song and learned Some new expressions. • We met the mayor of Monterey. • We visited Colton Hall. • We visited the Cooper-Molera Adobe. • We saw a rooster and a sheep. • We ate ice cream.
We made dialogues for our skits.We sang our song.We are always on the go.We went to the beach.We played beach volleyball.We swam in the ocean. • Day 4
Day 5 • We sang our song. • We typed our scripts on the computer. • We went hiking at Point Lobos. • We learned about the history of Point Lobos. • We saw a harbor seal, otter, a snake a blue heron, and squirrels.
Point Lobos The Docents taught us a lot about the history of Point Lobos.
On the weekend: • We went to the aquarium. • We went to the amusement park in Santa Cruz. • We went to Raging Waters. • We went to Big Sur to the river. • We went to the Turkish festival. • We went to a family’s house.
Day 6 • We practiced our skits. • We went to Del Monte Shopping Center. • We bought clothes, Starbuck’s and ice cream.
Day 7 • We practiced our skits. • We went to Cannery Row and Fisherman’s Wharf. • We learned about the history of Cannery Row. • We also learned about John Steinbeck, who is a writer. He wrote many novels and short stories.
Day 8 • We went to Monterey High School. • We talked to the high school students. • We went to Bay View Elementary School. • We sang our song for the children. • We taught origami to the children.
We talked to students We compared the differences between our schools.
Bay View Elementary YMCA Program We helped students to make origami cranes.
Day 9 • We practiced our skits and our song. • We went to the Farmers’ Market at MPC. • We bought flowers, sweets, like caramel apples, and brownies.
Day 10: Farewell Party • We prepared for the Farewell Party. • We are giving our presentations today.
Farewell!!! • We will have to say good-bye to our teachers and our host families. We will miss Monterey!!!! Thank you everybody!!! Bye!!
