  3. THE ANT AND THE GRASSHOPPER • Thisis the story of Jerry the Grasshopper and Annie the ant. • It’s a hot summerday . The sunisshining and everybodyisoutside. Jerry the Grasshopperisoutside, too. He issittingunder a big oldtree. • «Oh , i love summer ,»he says. • He isvery happy today. He is • playinghisguitar and singing«I • don’twant to work today , i just • want to rest and play!» • Annie the Antisoutside, too. • Sheisn’tsitting under a tree. • Sheisn’tsinging and resting. She • isverybusy.

  4. «Annie, come and sit with me !! says Jerry «I’vegotmy new guitar. We can sing a songtogether». Annie • looksat Jerry and answers, « I’msorry ,I can’t come and sing with you. I’mverybusytoday», and shecontinuesworking. • «Busy? What are youdoing? he asks. Annie shows Jerry her basket . Itis full of nuts and berries. «Why are youcollectingnuts and berries in the summer? he asks .« Thereis a lot of foodeverywhere!» • Annie laughs and shecontinuesworking. « I amcollectingnuts and berries for the long coldwinter,» shesays « Come and help me!» • Jerry putshisguitar on the grass and lies down. • « I don’twant to work allday , I just want to rest and play!» Then he fallsasleep under the big oldtree.

  5. Wintersoonarrives and itstartssnowing . Itisverycold and everybodyis inside. Annie the Antis inside, too. Sheis in herwarmkitchen. Itis full of deliciousfood. There are a lot of berries and nuts on the table. Sheismaking a berry and nut cake.

  6. At fiveo’clockshehears a knockat the door. Whensheopensit, shesees Jerry . He isverycold and sad. • «Why are yououtside , Jerry?» sheasks«It’ssnowing and it’sverycold». • Jerry looksatall the deliciousfood on the table and he answers, «I’mhungry and i’mlooking for food. • Thereisn’tanyfoodoutside». Annie smiles and invites Jerry intoherwarmkitchen. • Thenshelooksathim and says«Always remember ,my friend ! Thereis time for work and time for play!» Thenshegiveshim a big piece of the berry and nut cake .

  7. When the summerarrives Annie and Jerry go outsideeveryday. Theycollectberries and nuts for the long coldwinter. Whentheyfinishworking , theysit and rest under the big oldtree and singsongs .

IN WINTER THERE IS NO MORE SUNSHINE AND THE GRASSHOPPER IS COLD, WET AND HUNGRY. THE ANT HELPS THE GRASSHOPPER AND GIVES HIM A PIECE OF CAKE. THE GRASSHOPPER UDERSTANDS THAT WORK COMES First, afterthenhe will HAVE TIME TO PLAY.
