Housing Quality The quality of a person’s home can have a substantial impact on their health and wellbeing: a warm, dry and secure home is associated with better health In 2014/15 there were 43,000 Excess Winter Deaths in England and Wales 14,000 of these deaths were attributable to cold homes Ill-health caused by poor housing is an even bigger problem Source: NEA,2015

Fuel poverty A fuel poor household is one that cannot afford to keep adequately warm at reasonable cost Fuel Poverty is a problem which affects many of North Tyneside’s least affluent and most vulnerable residents At least 10% of all homes in North Tyneside suffer fuel poverty- this equates to over 9,160 households in the borough It has a wide range of significant negative impacts on quality of life including mental and physical health implications and fuel debt problems
