MetaDater Metadata Management and Production System for surveys in Empirical Socio-economic Research
General Objectives • Standardsto describe large scale of comparative surveys over space and time. • Toolsto create & manage respective metadata.
Main Products • Metadata Model • Applications based on the model • MD-PRO Metadata Provider • MD-COLL Metadata Collector
Metadata Model • Describes the collecting and processing of survey data within the logic of metadata. • Generic management and dissemination tasks like preserving, standardizing & exporting of metadata are part of the model. • Compatibility with the DDI standard - but the metadata model will be extended to describe also • data from time series and repeated comparative studies. • Distributed independently of the two applications
MD-PROMetadata Provider application • Target Group- Data provider • large research institutes, data archives, data services • Tools to provide high quality metadata: • e.g. facilities for processing, quality management, standardisation & preservation of comparative and time-series surveys • Modular import- and export-routines for metadata in various formats • Open for exiting or new front-ends / MADIERA
MD-COLLMetadata Collector application • Target Group - primary data collector: • primary investigator, middle-sized research services • Tools to set up metadata at is source: • Enter, edit & manage survey information from the start of the data collection on study & variable level • Data Processing support through access to relevant objects in the database • Basic publishing and export routines / MD-PRO
Benefits of the MetaDater • MetaDater will be an infrastructure instrument • to improve the processing, managing & distribution of metadata by more efficient and economic procedures • to contribute to best practice in preservation & resource sharing of data and metadata • to supply end-userwith reliable, standardised, durable & high quality information about comparative survey data • to increase theknowledge baseabout European & global socio-economic developments • to foster research and secondary analysis in this fields
