  1. The Lord’s Supper & Proper Reverence in the Assembly 1 Corinthians 11:17-34

  2. 1 Corinthians 11:17-34 • Verses 17-22: A divisive attitude at Corinth made void what they called “The Lord’s Supper”. • Verses 23-34: Partaking of the Lord’s Supper in the proper manner is as a memorial of the Lord's body and blood. • Verses 23-26(a):Look back • Verse 26: Look ahead • Verses 27-32: Look within • Verses 33-34: Be mindful of each other

  3. During the assembly that was held upon the 1st day of the week… • The Corinthians had developed a factious spirit. • They had turned the Lord’s Supper into a common meal. • Paul rebuked them for their divisions… • His solution concerning the common meal was for the brethren to separate it from their meeting place altogether. • He reminded them of why they partook of the Lord’s Supper in the 1st place • He commanded them to show respect during the Lord’s Supper. • He warned that not showing proper respect while eating the Lord’s Supper will bring judgment upon an individual.

  4. Applications for us today… • We are to “come together” upon the 1st day of the week as a church (Verse 18). • We are not to be “cliquish” within our assembly (19-20). • Common meals and recreational activities should be separated from the meeting place altogether (Verse 22, 34). • Remember why it is that the Lord ordained the Supper! • Look back to the sacrifice and what it means to you as a sinner, look ahead to the Lord’s return in faith, look within and examine your attitude, & be mindful of each other. • Revere the Lord and hold His acts of worship in the highest regard! • If you do not eat the Lord’s Supper properly, you will bring judgment upon yourself.
