  1. Banda Aceh, Indonesia

  2. Why The Relief ? • Tsunami hit the city on December 26, 2004. • The city was basically destroyed and they have been rebuilding ever since • Major consequences are the lack of infrastructure and housing since most of it was destroyed

  3. Transportation • The infrastructure still has not been fully rebuilt • Rebuilding has crawled along because it is tough to transport materials because there are few roads • The rebuilding process would go faster if there was a more efficient way of transport • Proposed plan is to design a better strategic infrastructure so the process of rebuilding can be faster

  4. Proposed Plan • The plan is to build a highway that resembles the M 25 in London • This will allow transportation of necessities to be more efficient • Along with immediate relief, it will allow Aceh to develop over the long run due to a solid, stable infrastructure

  5. Similar to the M25 • M25 is a superhighway around London that lessens congestion and allows traffic to move efficiently • It is vital to the economy and has improved life immeasurably • It has upwards of 30 junctions and allows the traffic to stay constantly moving • The proposed road in Banda Aceh would follow the following diagram…

  6. Map of Aceh

  7. Cost of Proposed Plan • Two main costs • Financial costs of constructing the highway along with labor costs • Environmental costs of pollution from vehicles and replacing terrain with concrete
