  3. Objectives • IWBAT • Determine the gender of bones using characteristics of the skull and pelvis

  4. Agenda • Determination of Sex Lab • Read article about Forensic Anthropologists.

  5. Determination of Sex Lab • You and a partner will work with a packet of three skull pictures and two replica pelvises to determine their sex.

  9. Determination of Sex Lab • You and a partner will get: • Determination of Sex worksheet • Change: • Glabella • Inferior border of ischiopubicramus Joint surfaces • Inferior pubic ramus Muscle attachment • Wing of ilium • Ventral arc • Acetabulum • A packet of skull pictures

  10. Determination of Sex Lab • Ms. Bloedorn will call up each pair to examine the pelvises to determine the sex of each.

  11. Activity 13-2 • With your partner, get • Activity 13-2 • pg. 365-367 (part of Ch 13 packet) • Use the information in the Chapter 13 packet (found on Ms. Bloedorn’s website) to answer the questions on Activity 13-2. • NOTE: Chapter 13will be up on my website for reference for the rest of the chapter.

  12. Conclusion • Write a paragraph conclusion that summarizes what you’ve learned about sex determination, using skulls and pelvis. • Make sure to have a topic sentence, a few supporting sentences, and a concluding sentence. • You may work together with your partner to discuss your findings, but each person should turn in their own conclusion, in their OWN words.
