  3. A Bit About The Performer Sir Elton Hercules john was born on March 25, 1947 in Pinner, Middlesex, England as Reginald Kenneth Dwight to a former Royal Air Force Trumpeter. Dwight began playing piano at the age of four, and when he was 11, he won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music. In 1961, he joined his first band, Bluesology, and divided his time between playing with the group and giving solo concerts at a local hotel. By the summer of 1968, he had begun recording singles for release under his own name. In June of 1969, he released his debut album Empty Sky, which received fair reviews, but no sales. Elton John was the single most successful pop artist of the '70s, and he continued to score hits for decades after his initial reign of popularity. Empty Sky Album Elton John

  4. Lyrics Of Song Goodbye Norma Jean Though I never knew you at all You had the grace to hold yourself While those around you crawled They crawled out of the woodwork And they whispered into your brain They set you on the treadmill And they made you change your name Loneliness was tough The toughest role you ever played Hollywood created a superstar And pain was the price you paid Even when you died Oh the press still hounded you All the papers had to say Was that Marilyn was found in the nude And it seems to me you lived your life Like a candle in the wind Never knowing who to cling to When the rain set in And I would have liked to have known you But I was just a kid Your candle burned out long before Your legend ever did Goodbye Norma Jean From the young man in the 22nd row Who sees you as something as more than sexual More than just our Marilyn Monroe

  6. How The Song Changed The World What I Think: The song was important because it was dedicated to a person who was rich and famous and lived a lavish life (Marilyn Monroe). It is an example that being rich and famous may not bring you happiness as she was depressed and allegedly took her own life at the age of 36. What I Think The Songwriter Achieved With This Song: I think that Elton John was quite successful at telling people that being rich and famous may not give you happiness because one of the lines “Never knowing who to cling to when the rain set in” meant that Marilyn had no one to go to when something bad happened
