State and National Exams Required in High School 10th Grade • PLAN • On Demand Writing Test • End of Course Exams (Biology, English II, Algebra II, US History) 11th Grade • ACT • On Demand Writing Test • End of Course Exams (Biology, English II, Algebra II, US History) 12th Grade • COMPASS (If you don’t meet benchmarks on the ACT • ASVAB • End of Course Exams (Biology, English II, Algebra II, US History)

  4. Additional Testing for Some Students • PSAT (required for National Merit Scholars) • SAT (for College Admissions) • AP Exams (Advanced Placement exams for College Credit) • KOSSA(Kentucky Occupational Skill Standards Assessment)

  5. Timed Assessments • There is NO more extended time on any of the state or national exams. • All question types, including writing exams, are strictly timed.

  6. Which Assessments to Take Students will only take the assessment for the grade in which they are currently showing in Infinite Campus. This applies to ALL state assessments.

  10. Plan ACT Plan serves as the midpoint measure of academic progress in ACT's College and Career Readiness System.

Plan, cont. • Administered in late September – window is set by the state • All Sophomores must take it • Scores are returned in approximately 3-6 weeks • This is the only growth measurement used by the state • They calculate growth from Plan to ACT • No Plan “prep” is offered • This is the “starting point”

  13. ACT • The ACT is the capstone of our College and Career Readiness System. The test uses the same score scale as ACT Explore and ACT Plan, making the system an effective tool to monitor academic progress and student growth. • 21 states currently administer the ACT statewide

  18. On-Demand • This is the only K-PREP (Kentucky Performance Rating of Educational Progress) exam given at the high school level. • Testing is to be 5 consecutive days during the last 14 instructional days of the district calendar.

  19. Who Takes the K-PREP? Required to Test Not Required to Test Students in the Alternate K-PREP Student’s skipped grade Foreign Exchange students Students with medical or extraordinary circumstances exemptions • Students in grades 3-8 and 10-11, including those with disabilities • Students who are retained • Students who move during testing • Students with a minor medical emergency • EL students in their first year are required to attempt mathematics and science (four multiple-choice or one extended response). • EL students in their second year and later participate in all content areas.

  20. On-Demand Pre-writing Area Pre-write is done in the Test Booklet. It is not scored.

  21. End-Of-Course • End-Of-Course exams are administered to all students who successfully complete the following courses • US History • English II • Biology • Algebra II

Overview • Each test consists of two sections of multiple choice – each with approximately 35 questions • All multiple choice exams are administered online • Each test includes a written portion that is created, administered and scored at the school/district level • The tests are designed to assess the Quality Core Curriculum • Each of you will have access to that site if you don’t already…

Compass • Test approved by the state for those who did not reach the state determined benchmarks in one or more areas on the ACT • Administered at SCHS, free of charge, online • There is no time limit and students have two chances to pass each exam • Many state schools use these scores for placement of Freshman

  37. KOSSA • KOSSA – Kentucky Occupational Skills Standards Assessment • Kentucky's Skill Standards, Assessments, and Certification System is based on standards identified by employers across the state.

  39. Preparatory Students Student who has completed two career and technical education credits in a preparatory program and is enrolled in the third credit course(s) in the same career pathway. What If… A student is enrolled in welding for 2 credits and takes nursing for another credit. Is this student considered a Preparatory Student? No. Student must be enrolled in third credit of the same career pathway.

ASVAB • Part of CCRR, the ASVAB assesses academic ability and predicts success in a wide variety of careers. • The Armed Forces Qualification Test or AFQT is the score computed from these four components of the ASVAB —Word Knowledge (WK), Arithmetic Reasoning (AR), Paragraph Comprehension (PC) and Mathematics Knowledge (MK). • To be considered Career Ready, students must score at or above the 50th percentile.

  43. AP • Advanced Placement Courses are open to all students grades 9-12 depending on prerequisites. • SCHS has an open door policy for AP courses • SCHS has been involved in the National Math and Science Initiative for the past five years
