2011 SHINE WORKSHOP Session 8:Particle Acceleration and Transport in Flares and their Relationship to SEP Events AntounDaou David Alexander Rice University
Session I: Flare Particle Acceleration and TransportTuesday July 12 @ 9:45 a.m. • What are the key observations required to distinguish between • the effects of photon production, particle transport, particle injection & particle acceleration? • electron and proton driven processes? • Does anisotropic injection imply anisotopric accelerated spectra? • Is the acceleration region separate or co-located with the interaction region? How do we determine this? • What physics have we not considered in particle transport studies? e.g. warm plasmas, wave-particle interactions, return currents, …
Session II: Relationship to SEP EventsTuesday July 12 @ 2:00 p.m. • What role does particle transport play in the observed SEP signatures (composition, spectra, distribution, etc.)? • If flares provide the seed particles for subsequent shock acceleration to SEP energies, can we distinguish the source particle properties and how do they relate to that observed at the flare? • How are electrons and protons/ions related in SEP events? How does this relate to the flare relationship?
