Ceres Ceres is the smallest dwarf planet in the solar system and it was discovered in the year 1801 by Giuseppe Piazzi. Also it was named after the roman god ceres which means the harvest and motherly love god. Also after 200 years from its discovery they finally promoted an asteroid to a dwarf planet because the width is 950 km it is the largest in the asteroid belt. Also it is spherical unlike other asteroids with low gravity and at its brightest you still can not see it with the human eye.
