Criteria voor de ECTS-label Course catalogue • KATHO 2002-2003 = 1,600 files, enkel voor de basisopleidingen In 2 talen (NL – EN) Voor alle eerste cyclus programma’s Online of hard copy Gebruik van ECTS credits Samples van Learning Agreements Samples van Transcripts of Records Proof of academic recognition

  3. ECTS-counselling visit June 2003 • Prof. Dr. Luc François (U Gent) • Mme Martine Froissart (ESC Lille) • Verslag binnen op 22/07/03 voor alle departementen en studiegebieden van KATHO • KATHO interne evaluatie van het verslag: doorlichting grondiger dan sommige visitatiecommissies!

The ECTS/DS counsellors would advise KATHO to… About the website This is very complete and very clearly structured: interested students and staff can find easily all information needed, etc… • Present in a clearer way how the credits linked to projects are allocated per semester or per year • Present the different documents and links to ECTS more as a whole

  5. The ECTS/DS counsellors would advise KATHO to… • Update the complete version of the Coursecatalogue earlier (February e.g.). Therefore, the description and content of the courses should not depend on the individual teacher, who sometimes may be appointed very shortly before the start of the academic year. • Would advise KATHO to continue its efforts for pooling the translation of the Course catalogue together with all, or at least some Flemish HS.

The ECTS/DS counsellors would advise KATHO to… • Follow the whole ECTS procedure in the right way, also during the stay of the KATHO-student at the partner institution and to “control” carefully whether the Learning Agreement and the Transcript of records are identical documents. • Use the grading scale only as a secondary marking system and to use it only for rankingpurposes

The ECTS/DS counsellors would advise KATHO to… • Put ECTS very central in the process of reprogramming curricula during the implementation of the BaMa structure • Implement a system of measuring workload systematically and periodically within the whole institution (cfr. Visitaties) • Allocate credits only • to courses, related competencies and learning outcomes, and not mathematically according to the duration of the period of study abroad.

The ECTS/DS counsellors would advise KATHO to… • Investigate precisely to what extent academicrecognition takes place at the end of the stay of incoming and outgoing students. • Harmonise the use of the ECTS in the departments as the departmental coordinators have a good knowledge of ECTS, but it seems that in some cases they use different methods and concepts regarding ECTS. • Evaluate and reorganise the system and the procedure of equivalences in such a way that the final decision is in hands of the board of the department or institution and not in the hands of the individual teacher

The ECTS/DS counsellors would advise KATHO to… • Mention no longer in the Transcripts of Records those courses, to which a student just participated and did not take exams, although credits are given for those courses. It is better to mention them on a separate document. • Integrate courses and results of exchange students in the Diploma Supplement • Adapt software systems in order to produce automatically the Diploma Supplement not only in Dutch but also in other EU languages.

The ECTS/DS counsellors concluded… • In order to realise this, some structural changes in the field of relations between central and departmental level are needed. • They do not have any doubt about the adjustments and finishing touches that KATHO will undertake to be able to apply for the award of the ECTS label!

  11. Finishing Touches? • Het bijwerken van de fundamentele opmerking in verband met de Academic recognition was niet in te halen van juli naar oktober. Minstens 1 jaar nodig! • Structurele wijzigingen? Ja, alles is nu gecentraliseerd van Application tot ToR via de LA en de revised LA’s. (ook op basis van de samplings van AHOWO) • Course catalogue: efficiënt op 1 jaar van de omvormingsdossiers? • En ook: EUC…

  12. Overwegingen… • Strenger zijn met de LA’s en ToR’s!!! • Vóór vertrek moet de studieovereenkomst klaar zijn, met studiepunten; • Bij terugkomst moet de student een afschrift hebben van zijn resultaten en • Volledige academische erkenning krijgen van de studiepunten in functie van de studieovereenkomst. • Praktisch: enig idee wat de workload is?

  13. Wishful thinking? • ECTS-counsellors would advise KATHO to continue its efforts for pooling the translation of the Course catalogue together with all, or at least some Flemish HS… • Een “kluifje” voor de Associaties? Voor de studiegebieden? • Voorbereidend werk in het HOR!
