  1. Maryland Emergency Management Agency FY08 Grant • $1,900 – Accomplishments: • Updated the Ocean City Hazardous Weather brochure to include a segment on Tsunamis and protective actions.

  2. Maryland Emergency Management Agency FY08 Grant • Issues • Due to the City Council’s decision that a separate Tsunami brochure was not needed a compromise was reached with the NTHMP to add an tsunami segment to the natural hazards brochure, resulting in the adjustment $1,900.

  3. Maryland Emergency Management Agency FY09 Grant : Accomplishments: • $81,350.00 • Ocean City purchased two electronic message boards. One with NTHMP funding and the second with Ocean City funds. Signs have been deployed at selected location along their boardwalk. $40,000 • ITIC and WCATWC offered to conduct a series of Tsunami workshops for the East coast. These workshops were coordinated by and attended by the East Coast WCMS. No cost.

  4. Maryland Emergency Management Agency FY09 Grant • Issues • $41,350 in funding was approved for securing a contract tasked to review and evaluate Ocean City capabilities against TsunamiReady guidelines. • Due to MEMA’s inability to secure a contact or have the funds obligated, the $41,350 was lost.

  5. Maryland Emergency Management Agency FY09 Grant Task 1.1 Review and evaluate the Town of Ocean City capabilities. Not completed and funds lost. Task 1.2 Purchase and install electronic message boards. Completed. Task 1.3 Develop standard operating procedures for Ocean City. Completed. Task 1.4 Develop testing and exercise procedures. Completed.

  7. Maryland Emergency Management Agency FY10 Grant : Accomplishments: • $225, 000 • The Town of Ocean City has ordered signage and will submit its application for TsunamiReady recognition. • Have conducted several discussions/meetings with several vendors to develop training and outreach materials for the East coast. • ITIC and WCATWC jointly conducted a series of workshops for the East coast • To date have identified all Federal and state leads with the exception of FEMA Region III. • Identified which States and local jurisdictions have a Tsunami response plan. • ITIC and WCATWC conducted

  8. Maryland Emergency Management Agency FY10 Grant • Issues • Due to the complexity of identifying the best approach for the transfer of funds from MEMA to the contractor. • East coast partners need to evaluate and possibly restructure their funding request for FY11-12 to better address East coast training and outreach needs. • Tsunamis remain an extremely low risk hazard for much of the East Coast. • Budgets and staffing reductions, coupled with low risk of occurrence have restricted the activities in the program.

  9. Maryland Emergency Management Agency FY10 Grant • Issues • State and local budgets are such that their ability to focus on the development of a Tsunami program remains a low priority. • Turn over of staff at the FEMA, state and local levels along the East coast has added to the slow progress being made along the East coast. • We need to build a strong case for this program and this will rely heavily on future mapping and inundation results.
