Module 19 - International Objectives There are six overall objectives for this module: • Explain the worldwide nature of Scouting and the role of the World Badge. • Outline the major international Scouting events and activities and explain how young people can become involved in them. • Detail how international aspects feature in the Programme. • Suggest ways of obtaining resources, ideas and material to support the international aspects of their section’s programme. • Suggest ways to include/emphasise the importance of including international aspects (including visits and expeditions as appropriate) as an integral part of their section’s programming. • List the benefits of international activities for young people.
Module 19 - International Duty to God * The two five point stars Stand for truth & knowledge. The ten points represent the 10 original Scout laws The Encircling Rope Symbolises the unity & family of the World Scout Movement Service to others Obedience to the Scout Law The Bond, showing the family of Scouting The world emblem is White, on a Royal Purple background, in heraldry, White (or Silver) represents purity, Royal Purple denotes Leadership & Service The Reef Knot which can’t be undone no matter hard it is pulled, it is symbolic of the strength of world Scouting’s unity & family * In the UK this may also be replaced with Duty to our Scouting Values
Module 19 - International Group Task (Sectional groups) 25 mins Beavers As a group plan a programmes for Beavers on an International theme. One of the programmes should link to the My World Challenge Badge or the International Activity badge. Cubs As a group plan programmes to promote understanding of Scouting in another country and / or life, cultures of another country. One of the programmes should involve part of the Our World challenge badge or the International Activity Badge. Scouts As a group plan programmes to promote an understanding of the international aspect of Scouting. One of the programmes should involve part of the World Challenge Badge, Global Issues or International Activity Badges. Explorers As a group plan programmes to promote the understanding of Global Issues in the present day. All the programmes should be interesting and exciting.
Module 19 - International What International opportunities are there out there? • World Jamboree • International Camp Abroad • International Camp here e.g. Blair Atholl • Celebrating International Days • Food, culture, language of other countries (ties in with faith) • Make contact with Scouts in another country • JOTI / JOTA • Learning about Scouting in another country • Promise, uniform, games, flags
Module 19 - International Planning a trip abroad In sectional tutor groups, list the steps involved in planning an overseas camp e.g. taking Scouts / Explorers to Kandersteg

Module 19 - International Other things to consider …. • Nights Away Permit • Nights Away Notification • International Letter of Introduction (usually issued by ARC(I)) • Insurance – not automatically covered by Scout Insurances • Visa • Validity of passports
