  1. LCLS Week/FAC24-28 October, 2005Steve Lewis X-ray Transport, Optics, and Diagnostics: Controls Status

  2. Major Effort Areas • Naming and counting all devices • Block diagrams of entire system • Aligning XTOD controls hardware with LCLS global standards • Completing cost+schedule • Installing EPICS and PLC software at LLNL

  3. Naming/Counting Devices • Comprehensive spread-sheet is complete • LCLS-conformant names selected • Full “chain” enumerated: devicegcablegcontroller/PLCgcablegIOC • Equipment costs tallied • Effort costs tallied: Mgmt + EDI + unit • Block Diagrams are complete • Also matches mechanical layout

  4. Cost Summary =5 FTEs

  5. LCLS Global Standards… • Motors: • Newport XPS single-box: turnkey; TCP/IP field-bus; driver and motor record from APS • Cannot “set position”; may need alternate for powerful motors • Cameras: • Camlink compatible from SLAC • IOCs: • VME/6100 when EVR required • ‘Small’ IOC? Want RTEMS+EPICS+drivers+‘breakout’ engineering

  6. LCLS Global Standards… • Vacuum • Choices for Gauges • MKS-937A w/317-CEP and 422-CCG • 15msec response option • Choices for Ion Pumps • MPS-2 • SafeCONN w/StarCell • PLC: Allen-Bradley • CLX-5000 for processor • Flex-I/O for distributed I/O • EtherIP+serial from SNS

  7. G G P V C C O • Operator uses portable console • Gauge/controller read-outs available • Optional valve panel • PLC provides both single-sector and global control • Analog wiring to devices • Delegate to smart gauge controller • EPICS uses Ethernet/IP for full access • Star-wiring to switches • Additonal serial path for more details • EPICS “master” sequencing available <=Hardware-to-PLC: analog PLC I/O <=PLC-to-IOC & PLC-to-PLC: Ethernet/IP Controller-to-IOC: Serial=> IOC <=IOC-to-OPI: Ethernet/CA

  8. EPICS at LLNL • 2 Linux servers operational • Working w/SLAC group on clean build • PLC Software w/PC in house • Will install soon • FY06 • Prototype Gas Attenuator and Vacuum • Prototype Motors, Cameras, and IOCs • R&D on Diagnostics

  9. EPICS at LLNL • FY07 • Procure all H/W • Configure EPICS • Design Diagnostics • FY08 • Complete Diagnostics • Commission
