My dad thinks everything in the world is beautiful. Now I like to take pictures too. IB1 Unit 4 My Hobby I have many hobbies. First, I like collecting stamps. Now, I have many stamps from all over the world. My other hobby is playing the flute. I have been playing the flute for four years. Now, I play the flute in a band. My favorite hobby is writing stories. I want to write good stories one day. I hope to be a famous writer someday.

II1 Unit 2 The Talking Fish There once was a poor man. He went fishing at the lake, and he got a fish. The fish said, “I will grant you one wish.” The poor man said, “Please make me rich.” “There will be a lot of gold coins in the treasure box,” said the fish. He saw a box full of gold coins. With the gold coins, he became rich. He thanked the fish for making him rich. II1 Unit 3 I Hate to Take a Bath Once there was a boy named Sam. He hated to take a bath. One day, he met a pretty girl. She held her nose. As soon as Sam arrived at home, he took a bath. Next day, Sam went to the park again. There was the pretty girl again. “You look better today, I’m Jenny. Let’s go on the swings,” said the girl. Sam and Jenny played together happily. II1 Unit 4 The Gingerbread Man There once was an old woman. She made a cookie in the shape of a man. She heard a loud noise. “I’m the gingerbread man!” he said. The gingerbread man jumped out of the window. He saw a river in front of him. Then, a crocodile came to the gingerbread man. The gingerbread man went on top of the crocodile’s nose. The crocodile opened his mouth and crunched. The crocodile ate the gingerbread man.

The villagers became worried. All the villagers visited the fisherman. “Instead of giving you food, I can teach you how to catch fish,” said the fisherman. Then all the villagers understood the fisherman’s words. They learned how to catch fish from the fisherman. IA1 Unit 2 The Greedy Dog There once was a dog. One day he was walking in the forest. He saw something shiny on the ground. It was a bone! On his way home, he came to a river. The dog thought he was looking at another dog. “That bone looks so delicious. I will take that bone!” said the dog. His bone dropped into the river. The dog lost his big delicious bone. IA1 Unit 3 The Two Friends One day two friends were traveling together. Suddenly, a bear appeared behind a tree. Robert ran to a tree and climbed very quickly. Stan ran to the same tree but he could not climb the tree. He pretended to be dead. The bear came to Stan and whispered to him. At last, the bear just went away. “The bear told me you are not a good friend,” said Stan. Robert became very embarrassed and ashamed. IA1 Unit 4 The Ant and the Grasshopper There once was an ant and a grasshopper. One summer day, the ant was working hard but the grasshopper wasn’t. “Hey, Ant, why are you working so hard?” said the grasshopper. ”I have to work as hard as I can,” said the ant. The grasshopper ignored the ant’s words. Winter came at last. The grasshopper was very hungry. The ant gave the grasshopper some food to eat. The grasshopper promised the ant he would work hard.

Finally, a young mouse stood up and said, “Let’s hang a bell around the cat’s neck.” “That’s a good idea!” another mouse shouted. They all agreed to hang a bell around the cat’s neck. Then an old mouse stood up and said, “Who will hang the bell around the cat’s neck?” No one could say anything. IT1 Unit 2 The Crane and the Fox There once lived a crane and a fox. One day, the crane was making soup for dinner. The crane put the bottle of soup on the table. The fox looked at the table.. He became very angry and went home. The crane wrote a letter to the fox. It said, “Please come to my house tomorrow.” He put the soup into a bowl this time. This time, both the crane and the fox were happy. IT1 Unit 4 Sweet Porridge There once was a girl named Nancy. Nancy met an old lady. The old lady gave Nancy a small cooking pot. “If you say, ‘Cook,’ the pot will cook sweet porridge. To stop the pot, say, ‘Stop,’ then it will stop cooking,” said the old woman. One day, Nancy’s mother wanted to eat sweet porridge. But she forgot the magic words. Nancy saw the village full of porridge. Everybody in the village ate the delicious porridge happily. IT1 Unit 3 Stupid Donkey There once was a salt seller and he had a donkey. The donkey always carried heavy bags of salt. The donkey fell into the water. The water washed away the salt. The donkey was happy because it wasn’t heavy anymore. The man realized the donkey’s intentions. The man didn’t put the salt on the donkey’s back but cotton this time. The water made the cotton heavier. The donkey felt sad and regretted what he did.

  9. JB1 Unit 1 The Bully There was a big boy named Daniel. He made everyone do everything for him. One day, Daniel hit a tiny boy named Jake. The next day, the teacher told Daniel to come to his office. In the teacher’s office he saw his parents and Jake’s parents. His parents were very upset. After that day, Daniel never hit anyone again. He did all of his work on his own. He tried hard to earn another chance. JB1 Unit 2 Moving to a New Home Hey, guys! I am doing better than when I first came to this town. I would like to invite you to stay at my house during summer vacation. There are a few movie theaters, some good restaurants, and quite a few parks in my town. My parents also told me that they are planning to take us on a boat trip. It would be great if you guys could make it here! I really miss you both. JB1 Unit 3 The Unique Home Hi. My family and I love our home. Let me show you why we love our home. There is a couch that is made of chocolate. There is a chocolate bed and a green candy desk in my bedroom. There is a chocolate kitchen cabinet in our kitchen. So what do you think of my sweet home? Do you see why my family and I love our home? Do you want to come to my house some day? JB1 Unit 4 Asking for Directions It’s school holiday today. Jackie and Jill are going to the mall. Jill is a little worried they might get lost. But, they know they can always ask people for directions. When they get to the mall, they first go shopping. Then they go to the movie theater. Afterwards, they ask a man for directions to the food court. The man asks them if they are playing hooky. Then they tell him that today a school holiday!

If you feel down, what do you do? JI1 Unit 2 Family My name is Nicky. I would like to tell you about my family. Grandpa Gerald is strange because he has hair on his face. My grandma is strange because she never, ever takes her scarf off. My parents are relatively normal. My little sister Sophie is very bossy and grumpy. He is always happy, kind, and sweet. Nancy is my twin sister and we look very similar. My family is strange but they are very adorable. JI1 Unit 3 My Dream Hi, I'm Jack. What do you want to be when you grow up? My dream is to be a musicianwhen I grow up. I started to practice playing the piano, the violin, and the guitar. I am also going to learn English. When I become a musician, I will meet many people from different countries. I want to speak with them in English. Now, have you decided what you want to be when you grow up? JI1 Unit 4 Careers My name is Louie. Today, we are having a Career Day at my school. Many parents who have different careers are invited to the school. They are talking to us about their different jobs. I want to be a builder. Builders work outside and change piles of wood and concrete into buildings. So, I need to learn about how I can be a builder. What do you want to do when you grow up?

  11. JA1 Unit 1 Greed A very poor traveler came to a village one day. In this village, there lived a rich and greedy donkey. Then, traveler heard a very loud noise. The greedy donkey had fallen into a big hole in the ground. The donkey begged the traveler for help. The donkey promised the traveler to leave the village. Everybody was very happy when they heard the news. In the end, everybody was happy except the greedy donkey. JA1 Unit 2 New Friends My name is Eric. I go to a school near my house. One of the few friends I have now is named Alex. The day I first met Alex was a very bad day. I had forgotten to ask my parents for money! Alex came to me and gave me some food. Since then, Alex and I have become good friends. Now I have many friends. I like my new town and school because of my new friends. JA1 Unit 3 The House My name is Clare. I will be showing you my delicious home. In my baby brother’s room, there is a chocolate bed. Our kitchen made of both chocolate and pasty. Now I will show you the best part of our house, my room. I have a green candy desk in my room. I think my home is the best home in the whole wide world. Do you want to live in a house like mine? JA1 Unit 4 Living Rooms People are different. My friends’ livings are very different, too. There are many windows in Chris’s living room. In Bob’s living room, there is a wall full of clocks. Almost everything in Liz’s living room is white. On the other hand, Jake’s living room was all black and white. Liang and Lang’s living room looked like an ancient room in a museum. Now, what does your living room look like?

  12. JT1 Unit 1 E-Pal I have an e-Pal named James who lives in England. I learned from him that different countries have unique and individual cultures. For example, James told me they use dinner time to catch up with each other. James said it does not snow a lot in England. So, he has never gone snowboarding or skiing. I told James that we can go snowboarding together later. Do you know anyone from another country or another culture? JT1 Unit 2 Personality I have an e-Pal named James who lives in England. One day, I emailed him with my questions about him. James said he has brown hair and hazel eyes. He is 5 feet, 5 inches tall. He is quite talkative and outgoing. He likes spending time with his friends and other people. A lot of girls like him, so he guesses he is good-looking! Now, we are trying to arrange a time to speak to each other by webcam. JT1 Unit 4 Neighborhoods My e-Pal, James, and his family finally came to Korea. We went out to look around my town. My neighbors stared at us when we stepped out of the front door. I could see that James and his parents were not comfortable. James and his parents looked much more relaxed at the park. It was the first day in Korea for James and his family. I really hope things are much better tomorrow. I want James and his parents to have a wonderful time in Korea. JT1 Unit 3 Fortune-Telling I have an e-Pal named James who lives in England. I went to England to see him during my summer vacation. James took me to something called a “fun-fair.” A tarot card reader told James that he will be a surgeon. She told me I will be a teacher. James took me to a lot of places. I had such a good time thanks to James and his parents. I invited James and his family to come to Korea next winter.

  13. NB1 Unit 1 Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Why do people say Mozart was a musical genius? Well, let me tell you why. Mozart is one of the most famous composers ever to live. He wrote over 600 pieces of music during his short life. You can hear his music everywhere in the world today. His music is still widely learned and performed all over the world today. There have been many great musicians throughout our history. But, I think Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart truly is the greatest classical musician of all time. NB1 Unit 2 North America Do you know a lot about North America? If you don’t, let me tell you. There are three large countries, six small countries, and many island countries in North America. North America is the third largest country. It is also the fourth most populated continent. 529 million people live in North America. They all speak different languages. The most commonly spoken are English, Spanish, and French. Now you know some information about North America. Would you like to go to there someday? NB1 Unit 3 Eskimos Do you know who the Eskimos are? In Alaska, there is a group of people called the Inuit. They have lived in Alaska for thousands of years. Eskimos use dogsleds to travel. Eskimos are great hunters and fishermen. Eskimos are also famous for building igloos. Igloos are small houses made out of snow and ice. Surprisingly, it is very warm and comfortable inside. Many Eskimos do not live in igloos today. But, their culture is still expressed through their art, dance, and language. NB1 Unit 4 Look at the World What do you see when you look at the world map? A map shows that almost 3/4 of the earth is covered by ocean. The land on Earth is divided into seven continents. There are many different types of maps with different functions. For example, an atlas shows where particular things are made, found, etc. Maps help us see the world better. And we use different maps for many purposes. When was the last time you used a map? What was it for?

  14. NI1 Unit 1 Walt Disney Walt Disney was one of the best cartoonists that ever lived. Even when he was really young, he loved drawing, and showed his talent as a cartoonist in high school. After he worked for an advertising company, he made his own animation company called Disney, and made many movies. Famous cartoon characters of Disney are Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse which have become cultural icons beloved by all generations. Though Walt Disney himself is not around today, his cartoons and movies are still watched by millions of people. NI1 Unit 2 Europe Europe has 34 countries, and is bigger than the United States. In Europe, people often move from one country to another, so they usually speak more than one language. Europe has mountain ranges, valleys, rivers, and dense forests. The climate of Europe is average and not as intense as other parts of the world. Also, Europe is an industrialized and modern continent with considerable amounts of natural resources. Europe is also known as a place where art, music and literature were created. NI1 Unit 3 Buckingham Palace Buckingham Palace is one of the most famous palaces in the world. It is the place where English kings and queens have lived, and now is the cultural icon of England. It became the official place for kings and queens when Queen Victoria lived there. Though it has been changed over and over, many of the artworks still remain there. Today it is still used for parties and dinners. Tens of thousands of people still get invited to the palace for such special occasions. The guards that wear red uniforms and big furry hats are one of the most famous things of the palace. NI1 Unit 4 The Five Senses Humans have five senses; touch, sight, taste, smell and hearing. With the sense of touch, people can feel objects’ texture and temperature. The sense of sight lets people see, and the sense of taste lets people taste food. People can smell with the sense of smell. The sense of hearing enables people to hear sound. Usually, more than one sense work together to help another sense. For example, food tastes even better when its smell is good. The bottom line is that all of the five senses play important roles in people’s live.

  15. NA1 Unit 1 Pablo Picasso Picasso was a Spanish painter and sculptor. “Guernica,” his painting that shows civilians’ pain during the Spanish Civil War is the one of his famous works. Picasso was born as a son of a painter. At the age of seven, he started learning art from his father. He liked drawing and painting more than studying. People admire him for his unique style. He draws objects in the forms of cube-like shapes. Such style was something that was never seen before. He died in 1973, but his works have spread throughout the world and remained. NA1 Unit 2 Asia Asia is a huge continent, and each part of Asia is really different. The southwestern part of Asia, called the Middle East, is really hot during summer. Southern Asia has the world’s tallest mountains, the Himalayas. Southeast Asia is rich in resources. This part of Asia used to play an important role in the development of a world trading system and routes. Eastern Asia has many people cramped in its cities. In northern Asia, there are forests, but much of the land is desert which is called the Gobi Desert. Lastly, Central Asia has soil that is too poor for farming. NA1 Unit 3 The Great Wall of China The Great Wall of China is the biggest structure that man has ever made. The creation of the Wall started when the first Emperor tried to unify the states of China. Even after defeating many states, the nation had many enemies left. So the Emperor decided to make a large wall to defend the country. The Wall was not completed at once. Many leaders of China created smaller parts and they later became linked by the smaller ones, creating a one single structure as the result. Today it stays as the symbol of China and is visited by many people. NA1 Unit 4 Volcanoes Volcanoes are openings in the earth’s crust. When the outer crust of the Earth is pushed by the molten rock underneath it, volcanoes get created. Even though they have been inactive for centuries, they can erupt anytime. When they do, they pose danger to all people and wildlife that live nearby. It also releases lava as well as toxic gasses. There have been many cases of volcanic eruptions on Earth, and they left bad consequences. One of them was the eruption of Mt. Tambora in Indonesia.

  16. NT1 Unit 1 Ban Ki-Moon Ban Ki-Moon is the eighth UN General Secretary. His success is not only because of luck but his effort. He was born on a farm, and was a smart student. Even though his family was not rich enough to fully help him, He continued to work hard, and graduated from Harvard University. In the same year, he took a position as a diplomat in New Delhi. In India, his reputation of a modest and competent diplomat was great. He learned wide knowledge about many languages. Today, as a UN General Secretary, he works to solve many global problems. NT1 Unit 2 Australia Australia is the only country that is a continent itself. The native people who are called Aborigines and others from all over the world have made Australia a multicultural country. The coasts of Australia are really famous, the eastern part is rich farmland, and the northern part of the country has a tropical climate. However, the majority of the land is infertile and the country faces air pollution. Its carbon dioxide emissions are really high, therefore, its weather patterns are undergoing changes. However, animals and plants in Australia have adapted themselves to the climates of the area. NT1 Unit 3 Predators & Prey Predators are animals that eat other animals, and prey are food of predators. Since predators hunt, they have developed systems to catch and eat their prey. They have a good sense of smell to find prey, they run fast to catch the weaker and sharp teeth to eat their victims. On the other hand, prey have special abilities. They have ways to avoid predators. They have good senses of smell and hearing so that they can run away fast, and blend themselves into the surroundings around them. The relationship between predators and preys is important for ecological balance. NT1 Unit 4 Discovering the New World Discovery of the American continent took place in the 15th century. At the time, European traders had a hard time trading with the Far East countries, because trade routes were dangerous. Columbus thought he could reach India by sailing west from Spain. He got Queen Isabella’s help, and began his trip. After three months of sailing, he finally found the land that he thought was India. He explored the lands and returned to Spain. That was how the American continent was found.
