CAP6135: Malware and Software Vulnerability Analysis Paper Presentation and SummaryCliff ZouSpring 2016
Candidate Paper List • Candidate Papers for the later half of the class is posted at: • http://www.cs.ucf.edu/~czou/CAP6135-16/notes.html
Paper Presentation – Face-to-Face Students • For face-to-face session (0001) students only • Each class will have three students present three papers • Each presentation lasts around 20 minutes • The teacher will give a summary at the end of lecture if we still have time
Paper Presentation – Face-to-Face Students • Each student only needs to do ONE paper presentation! • Please pick a paper from the paper list that has no student name in front of it, email me your pick and which date you want to present it. Then I will update the webpage’s paper list with your name and date • First come, first serve: So act quickly before your desired paper and desired presentation date has been picked by others!
Presentation Format • First page: • Show the paper title, authors, affiliations, published conference/journal name • Presenter name • Give acknowledgement if you reuse any content from other places besides the paper (even from the authors’ slides) • Three pages at the end of presentation: • Contribution: one page • The major contribution(s) of this paper • Weakness: one page • What weaknesses you can think of this paper? • Improvement: one page • How do you think to improve/extend the research in the paper?
Paper Summary – for online students only • For online session (0V61) students only • Submit paper summary twice • Submit summary through Webcourse • So there will be two paper summary assignments released on WebCourse • Summarize one paper in each paper summary assignment • You can pick any one paper in the paper list you want to summarize • Does not matter if a paper is picked or presented by a face-to-face session student • Each paper’s summary needs to be at least two pages • Single column, single spaced, 12 point fonts
Paper Summary Format • Summary: • Summarize what this paper is about? • Central ideas/contributions • Briefly describe how the authors show/verify their claims • Do not try to copy paper’s abstract or conclusion! • Should be more technical and detailed than paper’s abstract • You can treat it as ‘extended abstract’ • Use your own words • Weaknesses of the paper: • Point out what the possible weaknesses exist in the paper • Use your own words, do not copy from the paper • Your OWN thoughts: • Good? Bad? Interested? Boring? • Why do you think the paper is good or bad? • How to improve? Do you have a new idea on better work?
For paper summary assignment, each paper can be picked by many students, i.e., there is no conflict or preemption in paper picking • This is for online session students only! • For in-class paper presentation, each paper is exclusively allocated to one face-to-face student. • This is for face-to-face session students only! • So tell me your choice ASAP (otherwise you will have less choice in papers to present, and the presentation time)
Solving Grading Bias Issue • Online session students and face-to-face session students may get different grade for this section, how to be fair? • I will make sure the average score for both sessions’ students in this portion is equal to each other • For example, if the average score of online students in this portion is 90, the average score of face-to-face students in this portion is 80, then: • All online students’ score in this portion will be multiplied with 8/9
