  2. a definition OPEN THEISM IS A VIEW OF GOD AND REALITY THAT POSITS THAT THE FUTURE AND THE EFFECTING AGENTS OF THE FUTURE ARE STILL OPEN, THAT IS- NOT DETERMINED BY GOD

  3. So . . . Open Theism Posits: • God has granted to humanity free will and that in order for the free will to be truly free, the future free will choices of individuals cannot be known ahead of time by God • Since God’s omnipotence would necessitate what His omniscience contains to come to be, He must limit His omniscience and/or His omnipotence for humanity to be truly free • God voluntarily limits His knowledge of free will choices so that they can remain truly free

Open theism Posits, cont. • God is not weak or powerless, He has merely self-limited Himself in the realm of human providence to protect the free will of His human agents • God can make mistakes because He does not know all things that will occur in the future • God also takes risks and adapts to the free-will choices of people • So rather than the Unmoved Mover of Aquinas, He is the Most Moved Mover of Pinnock

The Answers to the Doctrine • Main Premise is the Hebrew Word, “Nacham” • Can mean everything from “Change your mind”, to “Repent” to be “Grieved” to be “Sorry” • Appears by way of passing in narrative • 1 Samuel 15:29 • Main Premise is that Mankind has Free will • Mankind has never been completely free • Main Premise is that God’s attributes can be divided • God’s attributes are not outside qualities applied, but rather internal qualities that define everything else • Main Premise is philosophical and cannot be supported by Scripture alone
