What is the Advanced Qualification Program (AQP)? • Voluntary alternative to traditional Part 121 Training • Designed primarily to increase safety through improved training • Carrier-, rather than FAA-, driven performance objectives • Adaptive curriculum based on new techniques, technologies, and performance data collected from previous training Adapted from http://www.faa.gov/training_testing/training/aqp/
What is the AQP Data Management System (DMS)? • Tracks pilot and instructor performance data • Used for monthly reporting to FAA • Used to gather summary information for Annual FAA report • Most importantly….used to continually improve our training program!
What are the data collection requirements? • Minimum requirements set forth in Chapter 8 of FAA Advisory Circular No 120-54A • Ability to update every 12 months • User-friendly – easy to complete • Ensure that data is only collected once • Supports offline electronic data collection
How did we implement the AQP DMS? • Reviewed off-the-shelf offerings • Too much customization required ($$$) • Didn’t fit into IT landscape • Decision made to build • InfoPath • Outlook • BizTalk • ASP-driven Administrative Web site • SQL Server • Collaboration between: • Learning Systems • College of Flight AQP Team • IT Application Development
What does it look like? Exchange / BizTalk Admin Web Site Instructor / LCA Lap-top AQP Team PPDB Reporting Users ATMS FAA Submission
What was the outcome? • 24 months of successful use • First successful FAA Annual Review • 7-Figure annual savings on training-related expenses!!!
What’s next? • Integration with flight training schedule to pre-populate offline forms with trainee and instructor information • Offline data collection for ALL flight training events • Inflight curriculum conversion to AQP
