  1. THE COLD SPRING HARBOR JUNI0R/SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL INVITES PARENTS AND STUDENTS TO ATTEND AN IMPORTANT FORUM ON TEENAGE ALCOHOL AND DRUG DEPENDENCE: THURSDAY EVENING MAY 2OTH AT 7:00 P.M. IN THE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER Guest Speakers and Agenda: • Dr. Stephen L. Dewey : After completing his education in graduate medicine at the University of Iowa and his postdoctoral fellowship in the Neurology Department at Stony Brook University, Dr. Dewey joined the Medical Department at Brookhaven National Laboratory. For the past 24 years, Dr. Dewey has been conducting research on the effects of addictive drugs on the human brain. Recently, Dr. Dewey moved his entire research program to the Center for Neurosciences at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research at North Shore – LIJ. In 1994, Dr. Dewey started an outreach program bringing his research findings to school districts throughout New York State. His presentation will help empower you with the knowledge and confidence to guide your children through their adolescent years as well as explaining how alcohol and drug use affects the developing adolescent brain. • Mr. Steven H. Chassman: Clinical Director of the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence. Mr. Chassman has already conducted a parent forum in our district and will be presenting to all students in grades 7-12 at a series of special assemblies. Mr. Chassman will highlight strategies that can assist parents in identifying and addressing substance issues as well as discuss various intervention and prevention strategies. • Pride Survey Data: Administration and support staff will present highlights from the recent CSH Pride Survey, which was administered in January to all students grades 7-12 and is designed to assist school districts in identifying trends in student at-risk behaviors and attitudes.
