  1. Today’s Message:Psalms 28-29:  “Prayer for Help, & Praise for Its Answer/Voice of the Lord in the Storm” by Pastor Jim Bomkamp

  2. Background for Psalm 28: 1. King David prayed and is confident that the Lord would hear him and overthrow his enemies. 2. Wycliff’s Bible Commentary explains the purpose of this Psalm:

  3. Psalm 28 (NASB95)Psalm 28: 1 To You, O Lord, I call; My rock, do not be deaf to me, For if You are silent to me, I will become like those who go down to the pit. 2 Hear the voice of my supplications when I cry to You for help, When I lift up my hands toward Your holy sanctuary. 3 Do not drag me away with the wicked And with those who work iniquity, Who speak peace with their neighbors, While evil is in their hearts. 4 Requite them according to their work and according to the evil of their practices; Requite them according to the deeds of their hands; Repay them their recompense. 5 Because they do not regard the works of the Lord Nor the deeds of His hands, He will tear them down and not build them up. 6 Blessed be the Lord, Because He has heard the voice of my supplication. 7 The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart exults, And with my song I shall thank Him. 8 The Lord is their strength, And He is a saving defense to His anointed. 9 Save Your people and bless Your inheritance; Be their shepherd also, and carry them forever.”

  4. Background for Psalm 29: 1. The Lord is extolled for His power as seen in the mighty power that is exerted in thunderstorms and possibly tornados. 2. We see the ways in which the Lord works through those mighty thunderings in storms. 3. This Psalm gives us hope and encouragement that He can speak to the hardest hearts and bring to salvation those who have gone the farthest away from Him 4. Quotes from The Bible Knowledge Commentary, James Hamilton, and Agustus Tholuck: 5. God’s Name is mentioned 18 times in this Psalm.

  5. Psalm 29, “1 Ascribe to the Lord, O sons of the mighty, Ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. 2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due to His name; Worship the Lord in holy array. 3 The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; The God of glory thunders, The Lord is over many waters. 4 The voice of the Lord is powerful, The voice of the Lord is majestic. 5 The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; Yes, the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. 6 He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, And Sirion like a young wild ox. 7 The voice of the Lord hews out flames of fire. 8 The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; The Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. 9 The voice of the Lord makes the deer to calve And strips the forests bare; And in His temple everything says, “Glory!” 10 The Lord sat as King at the flood; Yes, the Lord sits as King forever. 11 The Lord will give strength to His people; The Lord will bless His people with peace.”
